Voltage regulator is internal to the Alternator. You have to replace the Alternator.

Voltage regulator connector wiring diagram

The voltage regulator is built into the alternator.
Your alternator should use a plug that is molded into a 90 degree angle, has four holes and 3 pins.
A two wire connector fits an alternator made in the 70s and 80s.

I typed in the wrong year i have a 1980 f 150 there was a short going from the solenoid to the starter.it fried the wires we replaced the wiring now it wont charge.can you give me some ideas on where the...

if it is not charging -- then the problem is the alternator. check the alternator ( at the alternator ) for output. if there is voltage there - then the problem is the wires between the alternator and the battery. this could be the voltage regulator ( if it is not a internally regulated alternator ). or it could just be a bad wire.
now if it turns out to be the alternator -- replace it with a internally regulated alternator,,, this will help simplify things in future diagnostics.

2003 FORD E150 NEW ALT AND NEW BATTERY STILL NOT CHARGING

Your wiring diagram shows a fusible link between the battery and alternator. Also shows an optional voltage regulator. Trace the wire from the alternator back to the battery. Look for that fuse and regulator. I will paste the diagram below.

Alternator or Voltage regulator

if you can carefully put a metal wrench on the rotating pulley of the alternator and felt a magnetism attracting the metal wrench, then your alternator is charging. if there is no magnetism, then the alternator is not charging...

another test is to measure the voltage on the small wires that went in to the alternator that says "F" for field, it should measure battery voltage...that is the voltage from the regulator..that means your regulator is working...but the altrntor is not..

without that battery voltage, then the regulator is he culprit...

pls be carefull...

hope i was able to solve ur problem..

pls rate me.. tnx, drcool..
