Question about Cadillac Seville

1 Answer

I have a 1998 Cadillac Seville. I get a check gas cap message. A scan test results in DTC P0440 message. The gas cap has been replaced. A smoke leak check of the EVAP system was made and a faulty purge vent solenoid valve replaced. The lines were checked for blockages. There appears to be no leaks in the system. I still get the check engine light (DTC P0440). I have since check the purge solenoid valve. It is ok but does not get the signal from the PCM to open when the engine is running. The voltage to the solenoid is there but PCM does not connect the ground to open the solenoid valve. What is the next step? Is the PCM at fault? How do I check it?

I did rev up the engine in drive and the purge solenoid did not work. Checked the wiring from the solenoid to the PCM. It is ok. It appears to me that the PCM is at fault. Is there a way to check or test Tthe PMC?

The pcm wont purge the solenoid if you're idling. rev up the motor a bit, its not a for sure thing the pcm will command it in park either, u may have to drive it and check it. the guys at the shop can activate it with there scan tool too. check those filler tubes carefully, if the shop smoked it from the port, sometimes it wont fill the filler neck. sometimes u cant see the smoke. look down inside the tube and check for cracks, esp if its plastic.

Got a1997 cadillac deville got heat on passengers side no heat on drivers side could you tell me the problem.no defrost on drivers side either help please

DTC B1340 Air Mix Door #1 Movement Problem !
The heater and A/C programmer supplies voltage to an internal motor that drives the air mix door. The heater and A/C programmer monitors the air mix door position feedback from a sensor on the motor. If the air mix door is requested to move but the feedback voltage does not change, the heater and A/C programmer will store DTC B1340. If the air mix door feedback indicates that the feedback is near the hot or the cold extreme, the DTC will not set. Evaluate the operation of the air mix door through self diagnostics as described in the test description.
Test Description
Perform the Diagnostic System Check before continuing with the diagnosis of this DTC.
A Scan Tool allows for the direct control of the air mix door by observing the following conditions:
• The air mix door position feedback value
• The value`s difference from the air mix door commanded position value
These readings indicate a fault internal to the heater and A/C programmer in the air mix door sensor feedback.

Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check?
--
Go to Step 2
Go to Diagnostic System Check
2
With the engine running, connect a Scan Tool .
Turn the dual zone to OFF (passenger temperature offset at 0 or OFF).
Exercise the suspect actuator using the temperature control on the control assembly.
Is the door being commanded (COM) to the proper high and low values?
COM High 100 %
COM Low 0 %
Go to Step 3
Go to Step 4

If you are unfamilier with this , i suggest you take it to a ASE certified repair shop or the dealer .

P0440 code with check gas cap message how do I fix this

A code P0440 could mean one or more of the following has happened:
The gas cap is not installed or working properly
The purge solenoid has failed
The canister is plugged and not working properly

Here are some things to try:
Remove and reinstall the gas cap, clear the code, and drive for a day and see if the codes come back.
Inspect the EVAP system for cuts/holes in tubes/hoses Inspect for damaged or disconnected hoses around the Evap purge solenoid Check and/or replace the sensor
Check and/or replace the purge valve
Have a professional use a smoke machine to detect leaks

1st code p0440, then code p0453 then p0452 now p0446

This problem is out side the gas tank , has nothing to do with the fuel pump or fuel level sending unit inside the gas tank .DTC P0446 EVAP Vent Solenoid Valve Control System . Do you know anything about automotive evaporative emission system ?
Wells EVAP Training with Sgt Tech P0440 P0441 P0442 etc

This DTC tests the evaporative emission (EVAP) system for a restricted or blocked EVAP vent path. The control module commands the EVAP canister purge solenoid Open and the EVAP canister vent solenoid Closed. This allows vacuum to be applied to the EVAP system. Once a calibrated vacuum level has been reached, the control module commands the EVAP canister purge solenoid Closed and the EVAP canister vent solenoid Open. The control module monitors the fuel tank pressure (FTP) sensor for a decrease in vacuum. If the vacuum does not decrease to near 0 inches H2O in a calibrated time, this DTC sets.

1998 Buick Park Ave with trouble code p0440

Trouble code p0440 may be a simple as an improperly replaced gas cap, or a crack in one of the evap hoses.
Have the code cleared, if it comes back, find a shop that will do a "smoke test" to find the bad evap hose, and have it replaced.

Code p0440

P0440 is a EVAP leak detected, try changing the gas cap and reseting the ECM to clear the service engine light. If you can not clear the code it takes about three start up with out any issues to clear the code and after 100 start up's the codes will clear from the ECM's history. Note use the GM OEM gas cap for a replacement, anything else is just garbage and you'll be replacing it again with in 6 months. If it's not the gas cap, need to take it to a garage and have them do a smoke test to locate the leak in the system. Good luck and hope this helps, keep me posted. be glad to help
