Question about 1995 Toyota Camry

1 Answer

I am pretty sure the transmission is toast, but is there any other reason for the car to ONLY be able to be shifted into reverse? Put it in any other gear, step on the gas and it just revs. Transmission fluid is full :(

Sometimes if a halfshaft gives out,the car wont move. look underneath and have an assistant put it in gear and watch the front axles and see if either of them are spinning.

Transmission problem,no reverse and shift long from first to second gear,

Check to make sure you have fluid in the transmission up to the level it should be. If that is where it should be, the transmission needs to be replaced. When the transmission is slipping in reverse, it pretty much means the tranny is shot.

My chevy cavalier back lights wont come on i put new sockets and bulbs...what seems to be the problem and how do i fix the problem myself

Either the back-up switch is bad or needs adjusting. It's pretty much when you put your car in reverse, it makes a switch which makes your back-up lights come on. Not sure about yours, but some are located under the gear shift console when the gear shift is moved it will then make the switch, and some are on the transmission. I would try adjusting the switch first, which the car will have to be in reverse to get the lights to come on. It can be a little dangerous, but make sure the car it secured and someone is helping you. Gear shift in reverse, with someone holding the brakes while the switch is adjusted. It hard to explain this process, but wish you luck in fixing it.

Have your transmission oil filter changed;
it is located under the transmission pan
The oil is what makes the transmission shift
When you shut off the engine it stops the transmission pump then when you start up again the transmission shifts until the filter clogs again

Hi, I have a 1998 Chevy 3/4 ton 4x4, automatic transmission, has had problems for quite awhile shifting from second to third and now reverse is out. Shifting solenoid?

Hello, I see you are having a transmission problem. I sorry to be the bearer of bad news.It seems as though you may have already known it but the problem that you have had with second gear, could have been a servo bad but with reverse going out it may be the servo an band in the trans. It will need to be overhauled, in my opinion, since the transmission must now come out. Please rate my answer, Thank you.

Transmission shifting funny.

sounds like either your transmission is having problems with the valves...might want to have that looked at before your transmission dies completely......also have them check vacuum lines as i believe that car uses vacuum pressure to shift.

Transmission won't engage/ no drive or reverse at all

It's definitely cheaper to buy a trans from a wrecking yard than to have yours rebuilt. Before you do anything though. Did you make sure that the trans fluid level is full? I know this may be a stupid question, but I had to ask. The speed sensors job is to tell the speedometer how fast you're going...not related to your problem.
