It's located just in front of the front passenger door and behind the front wheel (also behind frame). It's held on by three bolts, not two. If you take the two off that are most easily visible and then try to take off the starter you'll be S.O.L. From the front of the truck looking toward the back of the truck the bolts are located surrounding the solenoid at positions (6 o'clock, 9 o'clock, and 12 o'clock). You'll need a host of ratchets, extensions and knuckles to access it. The sockets you'll use will be a 13mm and 13mm (deep). Don't try doing this without taking the passenger wheel off either... after disconnecting the battery, it should be your first step.

Hi!!
Look where the engine block mates the transmission, same side as the battery. Follow the (+) cable from the battery to the starter. On your vehicle it is on the Right (passenger) side. It is held by 2 bolts. Here are some diagrams of the location of the starter and the retaining bolts. Don't forget to rate this post!!

Why won't my 1997 ford expedition 5.4 triton start everything works except stereo turn key nothing engine don't turn over there's nothing

Check that the giant red wire on the starter is connected to the starter and the battery. Then check that the giant black wire on the starter goes to ground.

Actually, if there isn't even a click, check the starter relay. And it's fuse. It could also be the ignition switch.

Starter
Removal & Installation
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
3. Remove the starter terminal cover.
4. Remove the terminal nut and separate the battery starter cable from the starter motor.
5. Disconnect the solenoid (S) terminal connector, if equipped with a starter mounted solenoid.

To Install:
8. Place the starter motor in position and install the starter motor retaining bolts. Tighten the bolts to 15-20 ft. lbs. (20-27 Nm).
9. Install the battery starter cable and a terminal nut to the starter motor. Tighten the terminal nuts to 79 inch lbs. (9 Nm).
10. Connect the solenoid (S) terminal connector, if equipped with a starter mounted solenoid.
11. Install the starter solenoid safety cap. If equipped.
12. Lower the vehicle.
13. Connect the negative battery cable.
Start the engine several times to check starter motor

My expedition won't start. I have replaced the battery and it acts like it wants to start but it won't turn over. Do you think the problem is the starter?

More likely you will need to replaced the starter solenoid as that is what sends direct power to the starter and ignition at the same time.

I have a 2003 ford expedition,

if you have the 3.8 engine you might have a vacuum leak at the intake where the plastic intake meets the lower intake, there are rubber gaskets that fail when they get older from oil getting into intake. This will set that po171 also p0172 -3 &4,hope this helps as you may be wasting time and money to try and fix it with just the o2sensor .The maf on the ex is where the cone air filter is look for the wiring harness that goes into air filter housing, its inside there fun to remove dont brake it
