There are many reasons that have no obvious symptoms.

Please see my tip at http://www.fixya.com/cars/r5932051-check_engine_light_check. These are generic instructions. If you get stuck or need specific instructions for your car, please get back to me with model, year and engine info.

2001grandprixgtp is cutting out when going up hills checkengine light blinks

There are several reasons why a vehicle will bog down under load, such as going up a hill. It could a problem in the ignition or fuel delivery system, or it could be that the engine needs a tune up, spark plugs, etc. If the check engine light has come on, most likely there are trouble codes stored in the vehicle's computer. To retrieve the codes, the computer needs to be scanned. Auto Zone or Advance auto will do a scan. Once you have the codes you can determine what is faulty . You can look the codes for more info on the web. Just do a web search : " trouble code ..... " and plug in the code.

TERRITORY 2006 ENGINE RUNS ROUGH WHEN ETC LIGHT COMES ON WHEN IT GOES BACK OFF IT RUNS FINE

The electronic traction control (ETC) is on because of a sensor failure. Run fault codes to find out the reason for the misfiring when the light comes on . It may be connected to a limp mode in the CPU to slow down the car when the ETC has a problem

is normally the check engine light and can literally come on for millions of reasons if cars runs fine I would first check oil and antifreeze levels then if its still running fine dont worry about it in the shop we have people come in with lights on all the time and honestly most the time the light was never reset and there is not a problem.

My check engine light just came on and the car is seemingly running fine, what could be the reason or the most common reason?

The most common reason for the check engine light to come on is the Oxygen Sensor. Take the car to a garage and have the engine fault codes checked.

Checkengine came ON

sounds like a turbo problem. may well be a loose connection to your ecu as there isnt a sensor on your turbines. .

Check Engine light flickers occasionally

Check the oxygen sensor or catalytic converter might be bad; but I would check the oxygen sensor first. Also clean the cold air intake sensor, if there is something cover it then you'll see the checkengine flickers on but your engine is running fine.
