Question about Chevrolet C2500
If the key is out of the Ignition Cylinder and the starter keeps cranking the engine, your problem is either the Starter Relay, located in the engine compartment fuse box, swap the relay with another one with same numbers, like the cooling fan or compressor clutch. Or, the Ignition Switch located on the steering column. Replace as necessary.

You've got a short or the ignition switch is faulty. Run your hand over any power wire to see if you have any hot spots. This is where the short is. Also the starter may be good but the starter solinoid may be shorting in which case change the solinoid. Good luck!
