Hi!!
If the key is out of the Ignition Cylinder and the starter keeps cranking the engine, your problem is either the Starter Relay, located in the engine compartment fuse box, swap the relay with another one with same numbers, like the cooling fan or compressor clutch. Or, the Ignition Switch located on the steering column. Replace as necessary.

You've got a short or the ignition switch is faulty. Run your hand over any power wire to see if you have any hot spots. This is where the short is. Also the starter may be good but the starter solinoid may be shorting in which case change the solinoid. Good luck!

You hooked it up wrong . Is there power at the purple wire all the time ?
ignition the starter was (winding ) ???as soon as I reconnected the battery. The starter cranks the engine !It's really called a cranking motor not starter . Do you know where that comes from ? Before electric starters you cranked the engine by hand . Suggest you take it to a qualified repair shop.

You need a new ignition switch. Check with Autozone or OReilly's.

I have a 2003 sebring. 2.4 engine type x. it will not turn over. when the key is turned it sounds as the timing belt broke. so i open the top cover on the timing belt, turned the key and nothing...

start with the simple things first. Is the starter engaging ? Is the battery strong enough to turn the starter? Keep it simple to start with and go with the "flow chart" method.

Starter wont turn over battery good

Could just be sticking, give it a tap with a hammer if you can get to it, otherwise put the car in 2nd gear and get someone to help you push it forward until you feel the engine turn over, it wont start or anything it just forces the engine to make a revolution and frees the starter motor off. you dont need the keys in the ignition just hand brake off and push. that will most likely fix it. If it keeps doing it then you may need a new starter motor or a selonoid.

hope this helps.

Turning ignition key there is silence....battery is ok as lights, radio come on strong. I keep trying, turning the key and moving gear shift et...and maybe it finally connects and engin fires and starts...

When this happens and the key is in the Ignition position, do the dash lights, etc come on? Could be the ignition switch is bad, and this is and easy way to tell. If the ignition is on and when we go to START, nothing happens, I would replace the starter/solenoid next.

Have you tried bypassing the ignition? Turn the key to the on position and cross the starter terminals with a screwdriver. If it starts then you will need a new ignition or possibly a new ignition module.
