SOURCE: 2002 Izusu Rodeo timing problems
Check with your local Izuzu dealer, there is a procedure to set the cams in proper relationship with each other. This involves turning the cams up to 8 rotations to have them "jump" into the proper spot. I have had the same problem and found a bulletin that shows the correct way to time the engine.

if its a 6VE1 engine you might want to remove rocker covers and put front lobes of camshafts in position shown in picture with cam gear timmed up at same point cam gear are 3:1 ratio
look closely at cam gears in pic to see front lobe positions for both banks

It's on the back off the motor in the middle passenger side.
Disconnect the wire, unscrew two bolts then you have egr valve in your hand its that easy. If you are putting new egr valve it's worth putting new gasket. BUT i'll recommend not to buy new egr valve, just clean it.
Thank you for using fixya and good luck

first remove starter, then use pry or large screwdriver to hold flexplate from rotating while someone else loosens the pulley bolt.
