It is under the steering column covers directly behind the ignition key cylinder that operates it, see picture below.

I need to replace the ignition switch in my car

There is an Ignition switch that is located under the dash. On the other hand if your referring to where the ignition key goes in then this part is called an ignition cylinder. If it is the ignition cylinder (or tumbler) then yes the steering wheel must be removed to replace this and you will need special tools to do it. I would not suggest doing this yourself with no experience as there are lots of small pieces and parts in there. The ingition switch is located under the dash on the steering column and has a wire harness attached to it with numerouse wires. This is replaced by removing 2 small bolts and unplugging it. There is a rod running down the column that goes into a slot on the back side of the ignition switch. It must be placed in the hole where the old old was and then the switch may need adjusting forward or back to properly work.
Hope this helps.

How do I replace the ignition lock cylinder assembly in a Toyota T100

Instructions
  1. Removing the Cylinder
    • Lift the hood and prop it open. Disconnect both battery cables from their terminals. Wait at least three minutes for all residual electricity to discharge before you begin working near the airbag.
    • 2Locate the two airbag attaching screws, one on each side of the steering wheel. Pry off the plastic covers to reveal a Torx screw. Use a Torx screwdriver to loosen these two screws, which you can't remove completely. They will stop when fully retracted and remain attached to the steering wheel.

    • 3Lift the airbag out of the steering wheel. Disconnect the airbag wires from the harness by lifting up the plastic tabs on each side and pulling the two sections apart. Place the airbag face up in a safe location.
    • 4Unplug the horn electrical connector, which you will see once you remove the airbag.
    • 5Point the front wheels straight ahead. Remove the steering wheel retaining nut using a socket. Place a mark on the steering wheel and the steering wheel shaft so you will be able to realign them during reassembly.
    • 6Attach the steering wheel puller. There are bolt holes on each side of the steering wheel shaft. Screw the bolts on the puller into these holes and turn the puller handle clockwise to force the steering wheel off the shaft.
    • 7Remove the steering column covers by detaching the two screws on the front of the column. You will see these once you remove the steering wheel. There is one additional screw under the steering column. Pry off the ignition switch bezel. This is the plastic piece that surrounds the ignition cylinder. You should be able to pull it off using your fingers. If not, use a small flat-head screwdriver.
    • 8Unplug the connector from the ignition switch. This connector simply pulls out of the wiring harness, without any clips to remove.
    • 9Insert the key into the ignition and turn it to the "ACC" position. Insert a small screwdriver into the hole located on the bottom of the ignition switch casing to depress the release button. With the button depressed, use the key to pull the cylinder out of the casing.
    Installing the Cylinder
    • 10Insert the key into the new cylinder and turn it to the "ACC" position. Insert the cylinder into the casing. When it seats, you should hear and/or feel a click. Try to pull the cylinder out. If you cannot do so, it is properly seated. Reconnect the ignition switch wire to the wiring harness. Snap the plastic ignition bezel back into place.
    • 11Replace the steering column covers and the three screws.
    • 12Place the steering wheel back over the steering wheel shaft, ensuring that the marks you made earlier are aligned.Turn the handle of the steering wheel puller counterclockwise until the steering wheel is fully seated. Detach the puller. Replace the steering wheel retaining nut.
    • 13Connect the horn wires.
    • 14Connect the airbag wires to the wiring harness and place the airbag into the steering wheel. Tighten the Torx screws on each side of the steering wheel and replace their covers.
    • 15Reconnect the battery cables.

I need to know how to replace tumbler 1993 honda accord 5-speed

That is not the key part of the switch, it is the electruical switch the key cylinder operated.
Instructions
    • Set the front wheels to point forward and remove the key from the ignition.
    • 2Disconnect the black battery cable and then the red battery cable, in that order, using a wrench unfasten the two torx bolts securing the lower lid on the steering wheel using a ratchet and torx bit. Pull off the red shorting connector from the underside of the lid and put the lid aside.
  • 4Reach through the steering cover opening, unplug the air-bag electrical connector and insert the red shorting connector to the air bag side of the unplugged connector.
  • 5Unfasten the three glove-box mounting screws and put the glove box aside using a Phillips screwdriver.
  • 6Unplug the passenger air-bag electrical connector and insert the red shorting connector located next to the connector into the air-bag side of the unplugged connector.
  • 7Pry off the small cover behind and on each side of the steering wheel using a small flat-head screwdriver.
  • 8Unfasten the torx bolts under the small covers using a ratchet and a T30 torx bit and remove the bag assembly from the steering wheel. Place the bag in a safe place away from your working area with the cover facing up.
  • 9Unplug the horn connector located on the upper side of the steering wheel assembly and the cruise control switch located off center and towards the right of the steering wheel assembly.
  • 10Make alignment marks on the steering column shaft, at the center of the steering wheel, and the steering wheel assembly so that you can reinstall the steering wheel in the same exact position. Use a marker.
  • 11Unfasten the steering-wheel retaining nut on the center of the assembly using a ratchet, ratchet extension and socket. Hold the steering wheel steady with one hand as you remove the retaining nut.
  • 12Rock the steering wheel carefully from side to side as you pull the wheel off the center shaft. If the steering wheel is stuck, install a steering wheel puller on the assembly and detach the wheel from the shaft.
  • 13Remove the upper and lower steering column covers using a Phillips screwdriver.
  • 14Unplug the ignition switch connector.
  • 15Insert the key into the lock cylinder and turn the key to the "On" position.
  • 16Unfasten the two ignition-switch mounting bolts from the steering column using a ratchet, ratchet extension and socket. Then remove the switch from the steering column

How do i change the ignition cylinder if I have no key

Align the steering wheel so the tires are straight and then remove the ignition key from the Saturn.

  • 2 Remove the lower right side console trim panel to reveal the fuse box panel. The trim panel simply pulls off with a sharp tug. Locate the supplemental inflatable restraint (SIR, or air bag) fuse and then remove it with the fuse puller. Refer to the repair manual for the fuse schematics, if necessary.
  • 3 Open the hood and then disconnect the negative battery terminal from the battery, using a ratchet and socket. Isolate the cable so the terminal does not come into contact with the battery post during the repair.
  • 4 Loosen the four SIR retaining fasteners located behind the air bag module at the rear of the steering wheel using a ratchet and socket.
  • 5 Remove the inflator module away from the steering wheel carefully. Disconnect the connector position assurance (CPA) device from the module. Disconnect the yellow SIR connector at the base of the steering column. Unplug the wire harness from the module and then place the module in a safe place away from your work space with the trim panel facing up.
  • 6 Pry off the upper instrument panel retaining caps with a slotted screwdriver and then remove the trim panel retaining screws. Lift the trim panel upward to disengage the rear retaining clips. Disengage the front trim panel clips by lifting upward at each front corner. Remove the trim panel from the vehicle.
  • 7 Disconnect the CPA device from the passenger-side air bag module and then disconnect the yellow SIR wire from the wire harness pigtail located under the passenger-side dashboard.
  • 8 Disconnect the wire harnesses for the horn and cruise control (if equipped) from the base of the steering wheel. Remove the retaining clip at the center of the steering wheel (if equipped) and then remove the mounting nut beneath it. Pay attention to the alignment of the steering wheel locating notch for reassembly.
  • 9 Apply the steering wheel puller to the steering wheel and tighten the center nut of the puller to draw the steering wheel off the column slowly. Tape the SIR coil into position to prevent accidental coil damage from occurring.
  • 10 Remove the two retaining screws and then the upper steering column cover. Pry off the ignition lock bezel and then remove the two lower retaining screws and the lower steering column cover.
  • 11 Remove the SIR coil from the combination module. Disconnect the CPA device and the wires from the combination switch. Remove the combination switch retaining bolts and then remove the switch from the steering column assembly. If necessary, remove the instrument panel trim covers and center console trim to access the switch fasteners for removal.
  • 12 Disconnect the ignition switch connector and then remove the two ignition switch retaining screws. Disconnect the switch from the ignition module and then remove it from the steering column.
  • 13 Reverse the procedure to reinstall the new replacement ignition switch.

    Remove ignition switch

U must dis-arm the airbag 1st, disconnect the battery for 30 minutes before you begin work, then remove the airbag, the retaining screws are at the back of the steering wheel down in holes I believe, after that remove the safety clip at the top of the steering wheel threads, then the steering wheel nut, you will need a steering wheel puller to remove the steering wheel, they are about $10 from any parts store, after the wheel is removed remove the airbag clock-spring rotating contact, then remove the turn signal switch, there will be 3 screws holding the turn signal switch in, remove them, then remove the lower trim under the dash and crawl under and and disconnect the large flat connector at the bottom of column, this will allow u to pull the turn signal switch up and out of the way, don't force anything be patient, under the turn signal switch on the right of the area above the ignition lock cylinder u will see a black headed screw, it may be a tamper proof torx/star screw head or a phillips, remove it, then turn the ignition to the on position and slide the ignition switch out, reverse it all and put it back together. take your time, don't rush, good luck, contact me with any further questions.
