Internal damage to ignition lock cylinder. A dealer will gladly replace this for you.
(You NEED to take it to a dealer, lock and key cut codes are very sensitive information that can only be release with ID matching title)

This is fairly common problem. It will need a new ignition lock cylinder most likley. I would contact dealer and see if they can help with some assistance from gm. The new cylinder has to be keyed and all so will need to go to dealer or locksmith

I have lost my only key to my 2001 Ford Explorer Sport Trac..can I start it somehow without a key and how do I get a replacement key

Dealer OR Locksmith

Dealer you need your VIN number

Locksmith may just cut a key for your ignition

IS it a coded ignition ? then you definatly need a dealer
OR prokey company But they are limited to only certian model and year vehicles

My car starts without the key how much to fix 1997 thunderbird ford

Hi,
Before going to get it fixed. Spray some WD-40 into the ignition cylinder where you put the key in and let it soak. The lock tumblers may just be stuck and need lubrication. If thet fails then call a ford dealer and ask how much for a coded (this means the key will match your existing key and also open your doors) and an uncoded ignition cylinder ( key will turn the ignition but you will need your old keys to open the doors) The Ford keys were designed where one half of the key operated the locks and the other half operated the ignition. If you buy a new ignition key and cylinder it will only be half cut to operate just the ignition. The cost of all this differs dealer to dealer, and don't forget that there are locksmiths in you yellow pages that will do this also
Hope this helps

How to replace ignition key tumbler, lost the keys

before replacing ignition, call the dealer and they will make you keys with the vin #, as long as that ignition is the same,(never replaced).without a key the job of replacing the lock is harder, drilling will be needed, and must be careful no to destroy the housing, try the dealer first.

Ignition switch repairs

Once the dealer hooks up their computer and activates the ignition you shouldn't need to go back, The code that you were given is usually just a temp code to get you to the dealer.

Replacement key dont turn ignition at all its locked I have got two from dealer neither one works on ignition but will open doors

all a replacement key is for is to unlock the doors for when you lock the keys inside, you need to ask the dealer for a replacement ignition key with the sensor in it to turn on the ignition

2003 Honda Pilot key stuck in ignition

I had the same problem. It was like my key gained too much weight and wouldn't fit in the ignition. Honda wanted to replace the entire ignition after I tried my spare key. Someone told me about trying a locksmith. I did that. The car was there for about an hour and it cost around $90. They cleaned the ignition and bent back some peice of metal (can't remember what it was called) that was causing the problem.

Hope this helps.
