Question about 2002 Chrysler Sebring

1 Answer

Seized 2.7l engine in our 2002 Chrysler Sebring 4 door sedan, automatic. Heres the deal, can we switch out the dreaded 2.7l with the better 3.3l? We purchased the vehicle in it's current state for s few hundred bucks. Perfect body and interior, looks sharp. What happened to the 2.7, to the best of my current knowledg, was the timing chain broke. The pistons hit 2 of the front three spark plugs, and they *the pistons) are more than likely cracked. I know my way around the unders of a hood, having rebuilt and swapped out many a motor and trannys in my day. I also know that both motors set sideways, and mount up to the same tranny. Is it possible? Will the 3.3l work in lieu of the 2.7l?

Being that both of the motors bolt to a 4 speed 41te auto trany, the only thing u would have to do is change the brain box and wireing harness, and chech the weight ratio of the 2 motors if there close in weight, like 50 lbs or so than its good if its more than100 your going to have to beef up the front suspention a little.

Is there an low oil pressure automatic engine shut

Ouch. This one doesn't sound good Adrienne. Sorry. No automatic shutdown for low oil unfortunately. 1.25 qt of oil isn't enough. Sure sounds like a seized engine.

2002 sebring start/fuel fuse

Sounds like the fuel pump could be shorted or seized. I would begin troubleshooting there. It may need replacing.

Removing the 2.7 engine from 2001 sebring sedan?

ok heres the simple version its alot of work
remove hood put someplace safe
disconnect all wireing and mark off with masking tape and marker
****** you need car lift ******
remove all plastic part molding from engine
find the engine hoist holes for chain to hook to
this is a unibodi design so the whole front chassis drops down
unbolt the chassis make sure to have the chasis blocked and stable
lift car while chasis stays on floor engine tranny and every thing inside hood comes down on the unibody this is how you remove an engine from a sebring

or you take to the dealer spend the doe cause you got a nice car and have it done right
