I would first check for error codes using an OBD-II scanner tool- then research the Diagnostic Troubleshoot Code(s) to point you in the direction of the problem. Most common error is when DIYers read the scanner tool and automatically assume scanner codes pulled will pinpoint the exact problem. Scanner tools vary in scope. The bottom line, use the tool as a starting reference point, but you will have to test the component to make sure it is the one that is malfunctioning. My Honda Civic car is not firing what is the solution

There can be many causes of non-firing. Nobody on Fixya would be able to tell you the exact cause.

Your best option would be to give a mobile mechanic a call and ask him to do a diagnostic test using a OBD (a hand held diagnostic device that connects to your car).

Once connected, the OBD may well display an error code. The error code will identify anything wrong in the car system i.e coil pack, sensors..

The link below shows what an OBD scanner looks like. They simply connect to the car and aren't expensive. However, it's probably better if you just pay somebody to do it for you.

How to test that code

If you mean that you have a check engine light on - you need to use an OBD scanner.

The OBD scanner, when connected, will display a list of error codes and usually tell you what they are i.e 'crankshaft sensor' or whatever.

Many car spares shops will do a diagnostic check for free (you buy the replacement sensor from them..).

How can I reset check engine light?

You need an OBD scanner. The link below shows what one looks like:
obd Google Search

However, the check engine light is / was on for a reason. You should first use an OBD to identify what the error code - the fault - is and rectify it.

Once a fault is rectified the oBD scanner will be able to reset the check engine light.

It's probably easier and cheaper to get a mobile mechanic to do it for you.

2005 mustang my car started to misfire sputtering while giving gas and when coming to a stop rpm go down to 500 then back to 1000 but only sputters just once yesterday bad maf or fuel injectors

if you have an obd scanner check the codes.....could be as simple as a dirty fuel filter...also shows symptoms of a failing fuel pump (electric, mounted inside tank)....If you dont have access to an obd ll scanner, take it to n Auto Zone, Murrays, Napa, Firestone, or Goodyear, they will usually scan it for free........good luck.

Check your cigarette lighter fuse to see if its blown and replace it.Most obd connectors get power from the lighter circuit.

The code 0p000 keeps coming up when we use a scanner what can this be? Please help

WITH OBD SCANNERS THEY WORK THRU THE CARS COMPUTER AND WILL NOT WORK ON SOME OF THE OTHER AREAS OF THE VEHICAL, YOUR CODE 0P000 IS SHOWING
THE POWER TRAIN PARTS OF THE VEHICAL WHICH COULD BE THE TRANSMISSION.
YOU WILL HAVE TO TAKE THE VEHICAL TO A DEALER FOR A TRUE SCAN. I HAVE AN
OBD II SCANNER ALSO AND THIS IS ONE OF THE DOWN FALLS TO THE SCANNERS

Hypertech programmer tells me i have theese 3 code have reset them come back on.checked for codes with a odb2 scanner showed no codes on it.

Hello and welcome to FixYa!

If the obd reader is not updated, that's the reason why it doesn't show codes. As a first course of action, I strongly suggest that you update the obd II scanner then go for the procedure. This can help.

If the codes won't disappear, then the parts concerned will surely need replacement to resolve the issue.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

2000 Ford F250 Supercab-Engine light comes on even after you reset it. No code shows up when you scan it.

If it is a diesel engine then unfortunatley they are NOT OBD II compliant. They do have the OBD II port but the scanners you can use at the A/P store won't pull those code(s). You will have to use a scanner that pulls PSD code(s) or go to a shop with the equipment or the dealer.
