Question about 1991 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

1 Answer

1991 Chevrolet Silverado C1500 hard to start when cold. Rebuilt TBI, replaced fuel filter, good fuel pressure pressure. After several crankings 20-25 times it will finally start, and run and drives ok. After setting 1 hour difficult to start again.

Make sure your temperature sensor (for the computer) is correct. You will need to hook up a scanner for this.

Replaced fuel pump, fuel filter and sensor, 2002 silverado, truck starts but spits sputters and dies..help

Be sure you are getting good fire to the plugs and if you are take a spray bottle and spray fuel into the tbi and if it runs ok then you have a fuel problem, your pressure regulator in the tbi could be week and not putting enough fuel to the tbi. If not you need to pull the o2 sensor out ahead of the catalytic converter and see if it runs ok if it does then you either have a plugged cat or muffler. To much back pressure on the engine will not allow it to draw fuel into the cylinders and fire the fuel. Hope this helps.

Fuel injection needs 20-30 pound pressure to fire the injectors. Try to check pressure before filter. If its low your pump is no good. If its ok then you have pressure drop after the filter. Filter on backwards or clogged.

If the connector to the coolant temperature sensor is loose, that could be causing the problem since that controls certain functions of the computer when the vehicle is warm vs. cold.

1994 chevrolet 5.7 TBI running like poop

Fuel enrichment? The TBI /ECM system increases fuel mixture when cold starting. If you have low fuel pressure or dirty injectors it will impeed this function. The computer will continuely try to solve but cannot do to the low fuel function, should get it fixed right away as it will burn out the phase of the computer that controls this. Fuel pressure test first, it should hold between 9 -13 lbs of pressure. If you have not changed the fuel filter inline located on the frame do so $10 and it could be the fix. You can hookup a timing light and point at the injectors and this will illuminate the spray making it easier to see, the spray also will run in time with the light so if it is not there is a sequence problem between modulator, computer and possibly a crank/cam position sensor. Good Luck

I recommend you check the fuel pressure regulator diaphragm for proper installation and tears. Did you get a new one with your rebuild kit?
