My AC stopped working. I can see that the compressor clutch is not engaging. My Freon pressure was very low so I added to the proper level. But still doesn't work.

I need year--make--model?
You removed the fuse and used paper clip in the fuse socket? I'm just trying to understand what you did with paper clip?

Will no freon prevent me from adding freon if the compressor wont engage without it

Sort of.
If the system is empty, you would need to jumper the low pressure switch to power the ac clutch to put the first can or two of freon in.
Keep in mind the system is supposed to be vacuumed out before adding freon, so if it is full of air you won't be able to put the full amount of gas in.

test the following parts, use the VOM, for measure open circuit wires, or break, fuse open, switch defective, relais open or defective, compressor open or defective, fan motor defective, tracking voltage to the compresso, clutch from compressor defective. See the diagram attached.

Ac compressor good but wont start

You must have a leak, the compressor will not run if the system is low on charge, the charge carries the oil to lube the parts of the system. Also do an electrical jumper of the compressor cycling/pressure sensing switch.

I have a Montero Sport 2003, last week I had Freon added to be prepared for the summer, I noticed a noise and ask the mechanic, he said it was the fan but nothing to worry about. I drove the Montero for 2...

If the noise started after you added the Freon, then it perhaps is your AC clutch. Normally if you have an automatic AC system, then when the Freon gets low, the auto system will not allow the AC to engage, only allowing the fan to circulate outside air. In order to add Freon to the system, the AC lock out has to be over ridden, in order for the compressor to **** in the Freon. This in turn engages the AC system so that the clutch engages, thus engages your AC system. The clutch bearings may be at fault.

Check fuse for compresso and fan relay; check pressure in the system.

I have a 1989 ford probe and the radiator fan and ac unit doesn't come on...

has it got aircon gas? the system wont work without the gas, the compressor wont even engage if its not pressurised. you may need to go to an aircon regasser and have them run the dye through it to check for leaks, once its regassed the compressor should engage. if the system then goes warm within the next week you have a leak and they will track it with a black light searching for the dye they fill it with.
