How can I tell if my fuel filter is bad on a 2001 Yukon xl or if it's the fuel pump

Take off the fuel filter and see if it's clogged up. If it not clogged up, hook up a fuel pressure gage to the fuel line while you already have the filter off, then check the pressure coming from the fuel pump.

Just before a car runs out of gas it will speed up the idle (rev up) backfire and then die. You are probably experiencing a lack of fuel. Put a pressure gauge on the fuel rail that goes to the fuel injectors. It should probably read between 5 and 15 lbs. If the pressure is bad, it could be a fuel pump or clogged fuel filter. Obviously it is cheaper to start by changing the filter. The line could also be clogged. If it has good pressure all the way up to the fuel rail, it could be clogged fuel injectors.

Cant get car to crank

Check fuel pump itself to see if you can hear it cycling. If you can move down the line to fuel filter, could be clogged from sitting with bad gas, a common problem. Try turning over and spay some starting fluid to make sure you are getting spark. My guess would be clogged fuel lines. Let me know if I can help. Thanks.

Daewoo nubira 1998 wagon wont start after replacing fuel pump

Once the fuel pump was replaced, the chances are the released dirt particles from the fuel pump lines went to the fuel filter and clogged it. Change the fuel filter.

I believe my fuel pump went bad, I was driving down the road and the truck seemed like it was losing fuel. After it died i couldn't ever get it to start again. I bought a "used" pump from...

a locked up fuel pump would blow the fuse. also check at the fuel rail to see if the pump is working. it may have been a clogged line that burned up the first pump which in-turn burned the fuse.

and if there is/was a clog then it probably clogged the injectors as well, if fuel is making it to the injectors then you might try running a high quality fuel system / injector cleaner. I hope this helps.

good luck

No power to fuel pump was driving and it just quit

check the fuel line that is connected to the throttle body. how you do that is have a little cup to catch the fuel have somebody turn the ignition key quickly not to start the engine just to see if fuel comes out the line. if no fuel comes out the line, that means the fuel pump in the fuel tank went bad or clogged, if fuel comes out that means your fuel injectors is clogged. have a certified mechanic take a look at your fuel injectors.i give you advice to have a certified mechanic check the fuel injectors for safety.

could be the lines stopped up. happends alot due to old gas tanks will have trash in the bottom of them an you let them run low to almost empty it sucks up all that trash. it will clog lines and also clog the fuel filter and or make your pump go bad. check it out.
