How much should it cost to reupholster one seat in front. Only the bottom portion of the seat needs to be done. I got an estimate on vinyl and it seemed really high.

If you have the split folding rear seats then there is a catch for each side between the two headrests on the top. Pull the catch up and the seat folds down.

this is not possible without extensive seat base modification. It would be cheaper to take the seat back to the upholsterer and have them use a thinner foam in the seat.

The bottom portion of the rear seat can be removed in two ways, try each and see what works for you:
1. Push back the seat from the front edge and also raise it at the same time - it will unhook and you can pull it out.
2. Look under the seat and see if there are any bolts and, if available, unwind them.

-The passanger seat only heat the bottom of the seat. It does not have a heat pad in the back portion.

-For the driver seat, it sound like the bottom heat pad had burn out and need to be replace. The back portion and bottom share the same fuse. It takes time and the right tool to replace this heat pad, trust me I know.

Manufacturer recommends that you do not, it may change the way the air bags are deployed, even if the seat is torn in that area on the seam they do not recommend evening stitching the upholstery. only replace with factory materials.

The bottom portion of the seat is commonly retained in SLOTS, oriented front to rear, with openings rearward. The back portion of the seat gets pushed down, to squeeze under the other part. The front needs to slide back about 1 to 2 inches. there are usually two catches, one on each side, but in about 4 to 6 inches

the bottom sections comes out first, and the bottom section is held in place by 1 of 2 ways.

1. bolts, look under the front of the seat if there are 2 bolts remove them if not

2. push the front edge of the seat backwards and lift up at the same time - it should unhook - do this on both sides.

Once the bottom portion is out the back will have bolts on the bottom remove then lift up.

i have a saab 900 se conv that i am going to do the same thing. i think im just going to go with the same color, and same patterns of the old seats. i will just add some ripples, new heated seat elements, and speakers. and also i am going to look into adding vents with fans for cooling.
