I don't think you can adjust it as there is already a hydraulic tensioner in place that should do the job, if it rattles than either chain needs to be replaced or both parts.

I was driving my Nissan Maxima engine made a weird noise engine shut off wont start timing cover broke what to do now

That doesn't sound good. Sounds like your timing chain broke, which almost certainly means you have valve damage too, as at least one set of valves would be down when the chain broke and the piston will have made contact.

Some Maxima have belts, but the fact it broke the cover, leads me to believe your is chain driven camshaft.

It is a big job best left to a garage.

92 nissan maxima does it have a timing chain or timing belt?

There were 2 engines used. The VG30E(GXE version) and the VE30DE(on the 92-94 SE versions). The VG30E has a timing belt and the VE30DE has a timing chain.

Does nissan maxima 2001 has a timing belt or chain .and after how many miles does that need to be changed.?

For the 2001 Nissan Maxima 3.0L SFI DOHC V6:
It has a Timing Chain.
Unlike Timing Belts, Timing Chains will normally last the lifetime of the car. However, when it is time to change the Water Pump: it is a really great idea to change the Timing Chain and Camshaft and Crankshaft Sprockets, as you are in the vicinity and have already torn down everything already.
Professionally, but not officially, I like the 100,000 miles rule with Timing Chains.

You can wait its just fine, However if you ever start to notice oil leaking from front cover, then you will need to change. If there is no loss in power feel sluggish especially on take off, Its almost impossible for these type of chains to break. So enjoy until the wheel fall off..lol. good luck

When to change timing belt on 1996 nissan maxima

Maximas had a timig belt until 1994. Some Maximas from 1992-1994 had chains also, but only the VE30DE models. All VG30 models had timing belt. Since 1995 all maximas (A32, A33, A34 the all new A35) have timing chains and the rarely/never fail. In fact in my 12+ years with nissan, I have't seen/replaced single timing chain in a Maxima, so pretty bullet proof setup and I have had few of those cars and have one right now. Awesome cars, by the way, just keep up with the oil changes and it will run forever. One of my Maximas had 245000 miles, when I was selling it and I still see it on the road here and there. BULLET PROOF engines.
