Sifting, car shifting very hard

This is an intermittent problem on our 1999 Daewoo Nubira. It shifts fine more than half of the time. Other times it shifts very hard, with a 'thud'. It seems to do this by the running cycle. In other words, if you start the car and drive it and it is shifting as it should, it will continue to be okay the entire time it's running. However, you may start it again 20 min later and it will shift hard for the entire time you're running the car. The next time you start it, it may be okay, etc...

We have a 02 lanos it does the same thing It will shift hard then you can pull over turn the car off wait 10 sec. then restart it and then it will shift like a new car. Also notice that if only 1 in the car it works great if 2 or more shift's hard almost all the time. I'm thinking something with the throttle position switch or the brain shutting the car of and resetting the brain

If the car is been sitting try to add some lucas trans additive but if not,
take it to a service place to do a transmission tune up and see if that helps

Where is the vacume modulator on the transmission

There is none. The transmission shifting is completely controlled by the ECM (Engine Control Module, aka the "computer".) If you are having problems with the transmission shifting or not shifting, or perhaps shifting hard, have the OBD II system scanned for any fault codes. Also, it has happened that hard and/or slow shifting can be caused by the transmission fluid cooler (built in to the radiator) being clogged and the fluid getting too hot after driving a while.

Check to see if you have a vacumn pipe from inlet manifold to the gearbox on this age vehicle as if this pipe is perished or disconnected it will not change gear properly

Is it not shifting into OD? It should shift from first to second, then second to third, and third into fourth which is od. I'm not quit sure which forward gear you are meaning.

shut off the engine and see if it is still hard to shift . if it is not then it could be a problem with the clutch . if it is still hard to shift then it is most likley the shift linkage .
