Sometimes my brake lights don't work on my 1998 GMC 1500 2WD pickup. The light on the cab works. I Don't have to day anything and they will all work fine. Check it later and they aren't working. Without even touching the truck. It problem comes and goes. Any ideas?

SOURCE: 1998 dodge 1500 4x4 pickup radio

remove the unit and check your wiring harness dodge uses a two part factory harness if the plug with all the speaker outputs came undone it would still turn on and function normal but you'd have no sound.

1992 GMC break lights wouldn't work but tail lights, blinkers were. So I checked fuses and it must have been loose because they started working then went to start it, there was split second of power...

any half *** wiring job could do a number of things from no lights to no radio if its half *** then its not worth a hoot i would have the trailer brake removed unless you plan on using it then i would have a shop redo it trailer brakes when half *** installed can cause problems i prefer a whole *** job rather then a half *** job any day.

I have a 2004 gmc serra the front brakes work fine but the back brakes arnt working at all .. and nothing is leaking ...

Drum brakes? Maybe they need to be adjusted manually. When people don't set the parking brake the rears never get adjusted. Also with brake dust and all at times the adjusters get stiff and won't turn easliy enough for the self adjuster to do anything.
There should be a rectangle rubber plug on the backing plate.
Jack up and support the truck so the wheels are off the ground and the parking brake is off and in neutral.
Through the hole that the rubber plug was in you will see a star wheel. There are tools for doing this but at times a flat screwdriver works. Deepending on the side you're on, righty could be loosy and vice versa.
Turn that star wheel a few clicks and rotate the wheel until you feel a slight drag. Careful, if you go too far sometimes that star wheel is hard to go back because of the lever that turns it when the parking brake is set (another screwdriver to lightly push it while turning the star wheel back works).
One you have done that to both wheels push on the brake pedal a couple times. That will center the brake shoes and then check for a slight drag again.

If its rear disc then you may have a problem with the proportioning valve.

Tail lights not working. fuses look good, brake lights work, hazards work, but running lights don't- gmc sierra 2500

do the front marker/park lights work if not you could have a bad light switch on the tail light side of the need to check the brown wire at the back of the truck in the wiring harness as this is the tail light wire that feeds the bulbs.if you have power there then you will have to check for power at the socket,if no power at the socket but were you check the wire then there is a problem between the two that you will have to check out.if there is no power when checking the wire then you will have to check for lose of power between the switch and rear wiring.make sure the fuse is good by using a test light and not by looking as sometimes they look good but don`t work.

Does the brake light switch must be in the place from which it came in order for the brake lights to work? I replaced the switch but I colud not find the hookup from where it came. I have it plugged up but...

Yes it has to be mounted in the bracket so when you push the brake pedal it works the switch to operate the lights. They are sometimes hard to get to but there should be a bracket under the dash around the pedal arm that the switch goes into

Brake lights

Did you change the light bulb? sometimes you can not find whether it is out of order or not, you have to use a Om amp meter to make sure it is broken, anyway put a good new one there and see what’s happening. Usually there are many electronic reasons to drain the battery. I don’t think the light bulb cause this case. We will find out step by step.
