Should be a belt motor. the noise is most likely the water pump

im sure its the timing chain the one that is making all the noise. its a rattling noise . and the water pump is working fine.

The timing BELT tensioner is the one making all that noise. They usually get weak and lose tension, causing the belt to slip timing and destroy the engine. I've seen it happen on those VG30 engines many times. Hav

The rattle that you hear is the upper timing chain tensioners, they can be changed without doing the entire timing chain job, which is really expensive and difficult.

How can i adjust the timing chain on a 1992 nissan maxima ?

I don't think you can adjust it as there is already a hydraulic tensioner in place that should do the job, if it rattles than either chain needs to be replaced or both parts.

92 nissan maxima does it have a timing chain or timing belt?

There were 2 engines used. The VG30E(GXE version) and the VE30DE(on the 92-94 SE versions). The VG30E has a timing belt and the VE30DE has a timing chain.

2003 Nissan Maxima Timing Chain

You can wait its just fine, However if you ever start to notice oil leaking from front cover, then you will need to change. If there is no loss in power feel sluggish especially on take off, Its almost impossible for these type of chains to break. So enjoy until the wheel fall off..lol. good luck

When to change timing belt on 1996 nissan maxima

Maximas had a timig belt until 1994. Some Maximas from 1992-1994 had chains also, but only the VE30DE models. All VG30 models had timing belt. Since 1995 all maximas (A32, A33, A34 the all new A35) have timing chains and the rarely/never fail. In fact in my 12+ years with nissan, I have't seen/replaced single timing chain in a Maxima, so pretty bullet proof setup and I have had few of those cars and have one right now. Awesome cars, by the way, just keep up with the oil changes and it will run forever. One of my Maximas had 245000 miles, when I was selling it and I still see it on the road here and there. BULLET PROOF engines.

I brought some an it really freaking work because I started to run it into a tree and go buy a toyota
