Im about to do a ****** filter on a 2004 chevy trailblazer 2wd shallow pan, and im not sure on how many quarts of ****** fluid i will need to refill, im thinking around 5 or 6. what do you say

Most shallow pans only take 4 quarts of transmission fluid. However I would buy 5 just to make sure. Start by adding 4 quarts start your truck check your level after it warms up and add any fluid if you need to. Remember not to over fill... I hope this helps

I have a 1988 GMC Sierra. I replaced the transmission filter and gasket yesterday and now it wont shift out of first gear. Once it got to second gear but not third. I checked the fluids and they are all...

Did you put the correct fluid type in? Check to make sure that you didn't bump any wire connections at the transmission. Check to make sure that the shift linkage is hooked up correctly. Did you make sure that the filters were exactly the same? Some transmissions will have a deep and shallow pan option. Did you get the filter installed correctly. Your question lists two years in it. If it's a 1988 it is possible I think that it may still have a vacuum modulator on it which could be messed up or the vacuum line disconnected.

I am trying to change the transmission fluid in my 2004 Chevy Trailblazer.

This tranny has approximately 13 quarts of fluid. Just dropping the pan and replacing the filter will yield about 5 quarts or so, with the balance still sitting in the torque converter. I recommend just doing this instead of paying someone to power flush the system. There are debates whether or not this method will damage the tranny. When I did it, I got around 6-7 quarts out of it. Use GM's new transmission fluid Dextron VI. It's much better than the old stuff. GM starting putting the Dextron VI in 2009 and newer vehicles. Make sure you know what size your pan is, there is a shallow pan and a deep pan, the deep will have a step in it, the shallow will be completely flat.

There is another way to get rid of all the fluid, but it's very time consuming and difficult if you've never done one before. Involves disconnecting the transmission fluid cooler line at the radiator and having the pump inside the tranny pump out all the fluid for you.

How will i know if my ford explorer has a deep or shallow transmission pan

If it is a two wheel drive, most likely has shallow pan has the deep pan.But measure the deepness of the pan.Put the ruler beside the one of the bolts on the pan.If it is over 2 and 1/4 inch deep,it is the deep pan.Hope fully this will help.

1998 Blazer Transmission Pan Depth

If the pan is flat all the across it is a regular pan. If it has a step near the back edge and a circular indentation in a front corner (may have a drain plug in it) then it is a deep pan!

the depth of the tranny pan isn't really important. if you want to check the fluid let the vehicle idle and check it while its running unless its manual than you'll have to do it from underneath
