Question about Chevrolet Cavalier

2006_Chevrolet Optra. How difficult is it to replace front wheel bearings. Like many, I replace my ownd brakes, but never went digging further. I need my wheel bearings replaced and the dealership charges over $350.00 per bearing... so around $700.00 is what it would cost me. Thanks

Most Gm cars and trucks now days have a hub type bearing assembly. no press or speacial tools are really needed. be careful on instalation because the ABS sensor may be inside bearing. Remove brake caliper and rotor and axle nut. should be 3 or 4 bolts holding the assembly in. They will be very tight and should be tighten back the same.

Hi...your problem might be coming from your front wheel bearing hubs. They are know to cause this problem as they wear out and eventually have to be replaced.

Replace front hub assembly.

Replacing the front wheel bearing/hubs can be a big job for the inexperianced. Briefly...
Remove tire/wheel
Remove brake caliper assembly, do not remove brake line.
Remove caliper bracket.
Remove brake rotor.
Unplug ABS sensor.
Remove the large axle nut.
Press axle out of bearing (may need special tool)
Remove the 3 bearing bolts and remove bearing.

Coilapse of left front wheel suspension, 2006 Jeep Compass

Photograph everything and find exactly what came apart. Likely the brake hose was torn out when it came apart so that's secondary damage. When replacing a bearing hub, it's necessary to remove brake assembly and are working in the area where you have the problem but without seeing exacacly what happened, I can't think of anything further to tell you. Get an outside opinion on the cause from someone who can actually look it over.
Glad that did not happen while going down the road!!

Hi take the front brake rotors off and then remove the ABS WSS(wheel speed sensor) from the hub bearing clean the rust/corrosion from under the sensor and the hub bearing then apply a small amount of grease reinstall your sensors (carefull not to break the sensor they break easy) reassemble the brakes that should fix your ABS concern
