Smoke really has nothing to do with an engine overheating -- a loss of coolant would produce steam. If the smoke is coming out of the tailpipe it's likely due to worn valves or piston rings. To troubleshoot this problem, you or your mechanic need to run a compression check on the engine. The test is simple and inexpensive, but the fix could be costly, requiring that the cylinder head, engine, or both be rebuilt. If the smoke is in the engine compartment, you likely have a leaking gasket. The fix for this is messy, but simple and relatively inexpensive.

What does this smoke smell like? oil? coolant?, if it smells like coolant then u have a leaking head gasket, not all head gasket leaks cause overheating, so the fact the engine is not overheating doesn't mean you don't have a head gasket leak.

Smoke coming from engine

Where is the white smoke coming from? Under hood? Out tail pipe? If excessive white smoke from tail pipe, suspect a head gasket failure which in turn will fill the cooling system with exhaust pressure forcing the coolant to come out of the reservoir and resulting in an overheating problem

Wath do that mean when your car over heat an smoke comes in the car when it do over heat

Are you referring to smoke or steam? If it's smoke then either oil or fluid may be leaking onto the manifold. If it's steam it could mean that the car is overheating and the radiator is letting off steam.

When i start my 84 toyota truck 22r i notice white smoke coming out of the exhaust...

If your not overheating or losing coolant, its more than likely engine oil burning. If it is coolant related, possible blown head gasket.

Why is my 1999 mitsubishi galant V4 overheating??

Both white smoke coming from the tailpipe and the engine temperature overheating are signs the cylinder head gasket is blown. You should have a block test performed to verify.

My 01 grand am gt is overheating the cars heat will only blow cold air and alot of thick white smoke comes out of the exaust

White smoke is a sign of burining antifreeze. When heater is not blowing warm air, that is a sign of faulty heater core.
No power, coolant loss, overheating, is sign of headgasket leak.
Double check your thermostat as well.

Smoke when braking!

Is this smoke or steam if it disapates quickly it is steam (which means you either have a water leak or are overheating) if it is smoke it will hang in the air much longer this could be something as simple as a valve cover leaking, a brake line leaking and hitting your exhaust manifold
