Need to check where the short was from, the coil or the ignition unit.
If so rectify or replace the unit to proceed.
Please check this link for possible errors in poor starting.

Replace it, its located under the hood. something had to short that one out. im not sure if you tried to jump start the car and cross the connections to the battery.

I have a 1990 Chevy Suburban. I hooked up the battery cables wrong and now it turns over but wont start.

Chances are, you either blew the IGNITION fuse, or the main FUSIBLE LINK under the hood (marked "fusible link").
Chances are you blew more than one fuse... let's hope you didn't fry the ECU!

As soon as I turn the key to engage the starter, the ENG CONT 10a fuse blows. It's the 6th one down from the top, on the right side.

You have a short somewhere in the starting and ignition systems. Take your car to an automotive electrical specialist immediately. If you put in a large enough fuse the car will start but you could trigger a fire that might destroy the car.

I was putting a new radio in my car, wires touched and shorted and blew a fuse,i replaced fuse but now my car wont start.Ignition was on when fuse blew

Hi, check the remainder of the fuse's chances are you have blown more than one fuse, if they are all ok then you may have blown one of the main fuse's which are located in a fuse box in the engine compartment.

THE VAN STARTED RIGHT UP AND I PUT IT IN REVERSE AND STARTED TO MOVE AND THEN THE VAN WENT DEAD. HEAD LIGHTS ARE OUT, DOME LIGHT IS OUT. BREAK LIGHTS WORK AND SOME DASH LIGHTS WORK. THE VEHICLE HAS ENOUGH...

I would guess that you either blew a main ignition fuse or the ignition switch melted.
The brake lights and starter don't use the ignition circuit.
You need to trace with a test light.
See if current comes out of ignition switch when you turn it on.
It has to be going into the switch for the starter to crank.
As to what blew the fuse, it could be a short in the backup light circuit?

I have a 2000 Mercury Cougar 2.5 V6. I had a keyless entry and remote start installed today, the installer sparked the wires and blew the ignition fuse. we replaced the fuse but the car now is doing funny...

well if the installation was done by a professional shop, then they are responsible to repair any problems stemming from there techs mistake. But it sounds like a lot of wires got fried before the fuse blew. I hope this helps please rate this thank you
