Question about 1995 Acura Integra Coupe

I need to replace the radiator, don't have a diagram, but looks like the fan has to come off. what will I need to replace the radiator? And in what order do I disassemble the parts?

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. CAUTION
    Do not open the radiator draincock or remove the radiator cap when the cooling system is hot and under pressure. This can cause serious burns from hot, pressurized coolant. Allow a sufficient amount of time for the cooling system to cool down before opening up the system.
  2. Loosen the radiator drain plug and, using a large capacity container, drain the cooling system.
  3. Remove the radiator cap.
  4. Disconnect the upper radiator hose. NOTE: It is recommended that each clamp be matchmarked to the hose. Observe the marks and reinstall the clamps in exactly the same position when reinstalling the radiator.
  5. Remove the radiator hoses.
  6. Label and disengage the wiring from the thermosensors and the electric fan assemblies.
  7. For vehicles with automatic transaxles, disconnect the oil cooler lines at the radiator. Plug the transaxle ports and the hose ends to contain the fluid and prevent contamination.
  8. Remove the radiator. Be careful not to damage the radiators cooling fins while removing the unit. While the radiator is not heavy, it may be awkward. Use both hands to steady it during removal and installation
  9. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure. Refill the cooling system with the proper type and amount of coolant. NOTE: You may need to bleed the air out of the system to avoid the possibility of a trapped air pocket that may cause engine overheating.

The temperature gauge goes up to hot if i have my engine idle for too long but regains it normal status as soon i drive for a while

check to see if the fan comes on if not check fuses if it comes on flush engine and radiator then change the thermastate this should cure the problem

How to test and replace radiator cooling fan.


Here a tip illustrating steps to test and replace the radiator cooling fan and the parts that may cause cooling fan malfunctioning.

Before replacing the fan, make sure that the fan is really faulty.
Read volts at fan contacts or jump the fan wiring to energize the fan directly.Ensure that fan blades are not blocked.

If the fan is OK, then the faulty part is either thermostat or fan relay.Ensure also that you have tested the 15A fuse in the junction block and the 40A fuse located in the Power distribution Center (PDC).

Finally, here below the steps required to replace the fan. The procedure is quite simple.

  • Disconnect the battery negative cable and set it apart.
  • Disconnect the electrical connector to the radiator fan.
  • Undo the bolts that hold the top fan housing and fan assembly (this is called Radiator Shroud).
  • Remove the Radiator Shroud housing.The radiator shroud will come out with the fan sliding toward the top side.
  • Install the new fan performing the operations in reverse order.

I am looking for a procedure to replace the radiator in my '98 S70 nonturbo with AC.

Hi Steve:

The first thing to do is remove the negative battery cable, this will wipe out the presets on you radio and Nav if you have it. If this is not a problem the next step is to find the drain if it has one. You should collect as much of the fluid as possible. You can dump it down the toilette if you have to but dumping is in the storm drain will kill fish, dogs and other pets. They will drink it, it is sweet and it is poison. That said consider replacing the hoses at the same time you will probably damage them and you don\'t want to do this job twice.

Open the radiator cap.

Remover the lower hose and then the upper hose. Some cars and trucks also use the radiator to cool the transmission if this is the case there will be two additional steel tubes attached to the radiator. Spray the threads with liquid wrench or another good quality penetration oil. WD40 is not a penetrating oil. Buy the liquid wrench.

If you are removing the transmission lines you will want to invest in a set of tube wrenches. This might seem expensive but if you strip those nuts you will wish you never tried this job. You can buy them at sears or most auto parts stores if you don\'t have them.

The AC has its own condenser coil, it usually sits in front of the radiator. The condenser coil has aluminum tubes do not disconnect them.

I guess at this point I assumed you removed the cowling. If not you will need to do so. I don\'t know if you have electric fans or a belt driven fan. Some times if you have a belt driven fan you can just move the cowling back and not have to remove it completely. If you must remove it completely you may need to remove the fan first.

With that out of the way there should now be two bolts holding two clamps with rubber bushings holding the radiator in place. Remove these and your ready to remove the radiator.

Replace cooling fans

On a scale of 1-10 this is a 5.
I assume you checked the fuses and have good reason to replace this assy.

Remove the plastic valance above the headlights by popping out the plastic rivets with a small flat bladed screwdriver. Then there is a Steel valance under that. There are about six bolts or so, left and right. Also remove the two nuts that hold the hood release and let it hang when you pull the steel valance off. Now the radiator top is exposed. It's tight, but it can be done, but there are FOUR 10MM bolts holding the fan assy in place, two left, and two right. Unplug the fans being careful to pull the colored pin on the electrical connection that allows the release of the plug. (don't loose it, bag it) There is also a little clip holding the fan assy to the radiator. Look striaght down in the middle. Carefully pry it loose to release the top of the shroud from the radiator. It should now lift out with some wriggling, but it will pull free. (On the bottom there is a matching clip that holds the shroud in plqace until you reinstall the bolts.) Install in reverse order.

Radiator was damaged when I ran over something on the road. Need replacement instructions and proceedure. Friend purchased replacement radiator.

Here's what information is in ALLDATA (see pictures and instructions below). It makes it sound easier then it is however but the basics and procedures in order are there. Some things can be difficult if you haven't done it before such as removing the fan and fan shroud. The hose clamps really don"t need the special tools they are talking about and channel locks will work. If you're mechanically inclinde the stuff not listed you should be able to figure out. Have to replace the timing belt on my 2003 vw passat and would like a belt diagram

Hopefully you mean a sepentine belt and not the timing belt. There is a diagram under the hood for the serpentine belt. Look on the radiator shroud or close to it. The timing belt requires a great deal of engine disassembly and probably is more that most home mechanics can handle.

Must i remove the radiator, the grill, and the fan, in order to change the fan (serpentine) belt on the 1996 Grand Cherokee Laredo?

Absolutely not.. It will come out by releasing tension on the belt and working it around the pulleys..It's tight but it will come.

I take it the fan you replaced is the one that is belt driven on the front of your engine.2001threw 2003 durangos have an electric fan that is attached to the radiator.if you remove the fan shroud clips and remove the shroud the electric fan should be there.chances are theres a blown fuse for cooling fan, a bad relay or its just unpluged. Looking for a picture or diagram of 2002 dodge durango 5.9 as i got my vehicle back from shop having the water pump replaced. they went ahead and replaced the thermastat and upper hose and assembly for...

If the fan is running backwards, you should be able to fell the "breeze" from the outside of the vehicle, near the radiator. Also, If you spray the outside of the radiator with some water, if the fan is running backwards, the water will be spraying out when the engine is running.
