Hi!!

The 1963 through 1967 Corvette vehicle serial number, body style, body trim number, and paint combination is located on the instrument panel reinforcing member directly under the glove compartment. The vehicle serial number plate is located on the top left of the instrument panel (1968-76) and on the inside left windshield pillar post (1977-82). The body, trim, and paint number plate is located on the upper left hand door hinge pillar (1968-78) and on the upper horizontal surface of the shroud (1979-82). The vehicle serial number identifies the body style, model year, assembly plant, engine usage (1976-82), and production number.

All Corvette engine identification numbers are stamped on a pad of the engine block which is located at the lower front edge of the right side cylinder head. The first letter designates the plant in which the engine was manufactured and the numbers which follow identify the production date. The two or three-letter suffix identifies the engine type and related equipment. On 1972 and later models, if the engine in the vehicle is known to be original, the fifth digit (1972-80) and the eighth digit (1981-82) of the serial number may also identify the engine used in the vehicle.

INTERPRETING THE SERIAL NUMBER

A typical vehicle serial number tag yields manufacturer's identity, vehicle type, model year, engine type, assembly plant and production unit number when broken down as shown in the charts. Click on this link for charts and pictures, I hope there you'll find the information you are looking for.

It does not seem to be the original block. That it was a replacement block? I believe so. That it was a warranty replacement from the dealer? Only the dealer would be able to tell you.

Give the dealer a call, or better off, if you can, go by there and talk with a mechanic, he'll be able to help you better. Good Luck!!

What cuin, hp, trq, bore&stroke for this small blk 1995 chevrolet impala ss. casting #43006 below sg1 below h294. stamped #1sr177932 please

I don't think you have anything that will help in your search.
The 95 Impala SS came with a 350 cu in engine stock. The VIN code was P and the horsepower rating was 260. The casting number for that block would be something like 10199001 or 14101148. After 1970 GM started stamping a partial vin number on the blocks to match the original car. If you had the original car you could check the 8th digit of the VIN to verify the engine.

Thanks for the help I just noticed my typo my casting numbers are 3858180 my apologies the engine is a 1965 327 I just cant seem to find what kind of car it was put in if anyone has any suggestions on were...

"You need to get the suffix code off the front pass side, on pad in front of the head. It will be a code thats 6, 7 or 8 digits long. The 1st one will be a letter, next 4 will ne bumbers and last 1, 2, or 3 will be letters.. Like say V0621KH. V0621 if the prefix which tells plant, mo. and day, KH would be the suffix code which tells engine size, HP, induction system, and car it was used in Your 3858180 is not a vin #, it's the casting number and no it does not decode as a corvette. The casting # does not tell what car it was installed in. Its just the size and year range. That # is added before the engine was ever thought of being built and installed. 3858180....327...1964-67...2 bolt main thats all the casting number decodes as."

What engine did my 64 chevy come with

If that's a full size psgr car it could have a 230 6 cyl, 283 2bbl carb, 327 250 or 300 hp, 409 340, 400 or 425 hp. The 400 and 425 409's were manual trans only all others could be either manual or powerglide. The 409's in 64 had K66 transistor ignition as an option. First year for K66 in Chevrolet line, Pontiac had it in 1963. The 327 first showed in 1962 in both cars and corvettes.

I lost my key to my 1963 Cadillac coupe DE ville I was curious how I should go about replacing it.

Ive been told that gm can cut a key using the information in your vin number. I wouldnt know if gm would still have records from 1963 to help them cut a key but it would be worth a try.
