Is this a ford ? Don't know of any other car maker using cylinder head temp sensor ! Is the cooling system full an no air ? probably a gauge problem !

On a 94 vette which temp sending unit supplies which temp gauge, analog or digital?


I'm 90% sure the sensor on the water pump is for the engine computer and the cooling fan, and the sensor on the cylinder head is for both gauges. The signal is converted inside the instrument cluster.

'05 Grand Am 3.4 V6 Temp Gauge not Working all of a sudden.


Sounds like a temp sensor or wiring problem.
You may only have one sensor for both the gauge and the engine computer.
If the computer temp sensor fails, or is not sending a signal to the engine computer, the fans will run as a precaution to keep the engine from overheating.
If you have replaced the correct sensor, it could be a wiring problem, or the engine coolant could be low enough to not touch the sensor.
If the coolant sensor is not sending a signal, the check engine light should also be on.

2003 mountaineer V8 Temp gauge jumps to hot not over heating. Replaced thermostat, no change


The Engine Temp. sensor is bad. it is under the intake manifold. if there is a miss also check under the coils over the spark plugs. If there is Coolant in the spark plug holes .then the intake gasket is leaking. The intake manifold needs to come off to change the coolant sensor. When off look for corrosion on the cylinder head at the coolant port. If there is corrsion then the cylinder head must be replaced.

Hello I have a 06 Ford freestar I'm getting a


The cooling system may be low on fluid.
The code is for a temp sensor high voltage which could be a wiring problem or something else.
The sensor needs to be in contact with liquid coolant to work. The computer is not getting an acceptable signal from the sensor, so the check engine light is on and the fan runs for safety. The sensor for the computer is different than the one for the temp gauge.

Cool fan won't run on its own I put a relay to the cooling fan motor so it runs key on ,all is well ,temp stays normal ! I pulled the relays / fuse tested them with a meter , replaced the temp send...


Need to know some specifics for a specifis answer.
To answer in general, Sounds as if you replaced the correct computer temp sensor (it would have a voltage reference signal) and not the gauge sender. The temp may need to reach 235 degrees or so to kick the fan on. Too me that is way too high. But running at a higher temp normally lowers emissions and I think that is the reason for the high temp to kick on a fan.

With a scanner you can see what the temp sensor is reading and when there is a fan request from the computer. Not everyone keeps a scanner for home use.
Do you have A/C and does the fan ever kick on when the A/C is on?

You can try this,
Go to your factory fan relay and figure which is the ground signal wire (the ECM sends a ground signal to trigger the relay. Early wire such as in my 89 IROC is a green with white stripe). Ground this wire with the key on. Does the fan come on?

If the fan comes on, look at the cylinder heads between the exhaust ports. The right side may have a pipe plug towards the rear. Left side it would be up front.
If there is a pipe plug then there is a provision to add a low temp fan switch. Search SummitRacing.com (or another source) for a low temp fan switch. Hypertech makes some. Install that into the port where the pipe plug is (careful of thread sealant as it can interfere with a good ground it needs). Connect the wire from the low temp switch to the ground wire of the relay. You can use a center tap as all you're doing is adding a ground (thats not like something that will draw current which you don't want to do).
This way you have a low temp switch to send a ground signal to the relay and still have the factory computer circuit.

You can get free wire diagrams from autozone.com in the repair section. This way you can look up your specifuc vehicle and see what wires do what and which would be the ground from the ECM.

I have a hyundai accent 1996 when i put the left turn signal the temparture gauge moves left to right.


You most likely have a ground problem somewhere in the turn signal circuit and it is partially using the temp gauge as a ground source causing the meter to move. Could also be a short in the wiring harness between the turn signal wire and the temp sender wire.

Sounds like the body control module for the light issues,the fuel gauge works off of the fuel pump , sound like maby the wire come loose at the pump . temp gauge make shure after you replaced the intake gasket that you didnt get a wire to the temp sensor pinched or next to something that could have melted the wire,If the wire gets hot and melts it will go to ground and cause alot of the probs your having in the dash, cause the wire will ground out and send signal to the body control module which in return cause all kinds of beeps and lights to malfunction.If there is no short it is the body control mdule has gone bad and if replaced should fix your problem.

Need to attach new electric temp. switch/sensor where aftermarket mechanical one is installed


The factory wire to the factory gauge is a solid green wire. that year truck the sending unit usually mounted in the drivers side cylinder head but i have seen some in the passanger side if they have cut the wire and you can goto the main harness connector under the brake master cylinder and booster and find the only solid dark green wire and follow it forward to see how far it back they cut then just splice and run it to your new sending unit . If you want to check to make sure the gauge works after you find the solid green wire put it to a ground and the gauge should go to hot if it does not you have a bad gauge or a cluster wireing in side the truck and that is why they put the aftermarket gauge in .
