The check engine light is a indicator that there is a problem in the emission control system of the engine, not low oil.

My check oil light stays on on my 1989 bmw 325i is it a service light or warning light how do i correct it

This is a very serious condition and you could completely ruin your engine if the oil gets too low. As a first step, check the oil level with the dipstick and add more if it needs to be filled. Is this sounds like it's too complicated, just get the oil changed and your problem will go away.

Toyota Avalon 2001 oil pressure light came on yesterday and I checked oil level and filled appropriately, cam on again as I was about half way home engine shut off before I could pull over, waited a few...

The warning light means the engine oil pressure is low, not necessarily that the oil level is low.
The problem could be the pressure switch, or you really could have low oil pressure.
Driving the car with low oil pressure will damage the engine.

I have a 97 Chevy Lumina. It has 276,*** miles on it. I bought it used 4 months ago. It was running excellent then the service engine soon light, low coolant light, and change oil soon light started coming...

The fact that the oil was low would not be from the oil pump, but from wear in the engine. If it is not smoking when you start it or as you drive, you can probably keep it running by just keeping the oil level checked at each fuel fill-up. As for the car shutting off, you didn't say if the engine seized or got real hot. A low oil pressure problem should have triggered a warning light before the problem got to the point where you lost the engine.

If the car ran after you added the oil, you got lucky and need to always check it.

Oil light comes on between services on bmw 318 ti es

Oil light should not come on unless the Level is LOW or the Oil Pressure has dropped below safe operating limits. I would do 3 things
1. Check Oil Level, if low, fill to the correct level and then restart.
a. if the light does not go out....
2. Pull the Oil Pressure Sending unit out and install a pressure gauge
a. if the pressure is in normal operating limits, chances are the Oil Pressure sending unit is bad
b. If the pressure is low, the issue is
1. Oil Pump
2. Engine Main or Rod bearings are bad and a engine rebuild is on its way

My change oil light came on and I just had a oil change 1000 miles ago? why is this happening?

Your oil light indicates a low level of oil in the engine.
Check the level and fill it.
Running the car with low oil can destroy the engine.
Take it back to where you had the oil changed and tell them. then plug oil pug may not be seated or the filter may not be seated.

A week ago i had all of my car oil change then after that week the oilpan light came up and it is steady red is not blinking sone time it goes away and then it come back what could be

hi, the oil light in your vehicle comes on to let you know that the oil pressure or level is low. sounds like the oil change was performed, but the oil level was not returned(not filled) correctly, or not filled at all. also a possibility that the oil leaked out from a leaking oil filter or drain plug. you should check the oil level on the dipstick before you drive again. if it is low, or empty, the engine will likely blow very soon. fill the oil if it is low until it shows on the dipstick. then top off until on the full mark. or, call the shop that performed the oil change and have them tow your vehicle back to have it serviced correctly. you should be upset at this fact, there should never be a time when you just have your oil changed and the oil light comes on soon after. this generally tells you that your vehicle was not serviced properly.

Oil can icon on the dashboard of chrysler 300 -what to do??

oil light indicates one of two things, Low oil pressure. or Low oil level. Check the level on the dipstick (consult owners manual), if it is low fill it to the "full" line with fresh oil of the correct grade. Also the oil on the disptick should look syrupy golden, not black and dirty - if the oil looks filthy then get it changed, old oil is thinner and results in lower pressure... if it is already at or near the FULL line then you have a more serious problem - low oil pressure is caused by a, faulty oil pump b, worn engine c, wrong grade of oil d, not enough oil e, contaminated oil Also a faulty oil pressure switch could bring the light on... so check this before you have the engine stripped!!!!!
An oil change will cost very little money and could solve the problem, if the light is still on with new oil then chave the oil pressure switch tested... if not the switch than it is a "real" engine problem and needs proper investigation.
IT IS NOT A GOOD IDEA TO DRIVE WITH THE OIL LIGHT ON Unless you know it is an electrical fault and not truly a low oil pressure condition bringing on the light.

CHECK OIL - fill if necesary - light hopefully goes off... STILL ON - have switch tested - switch is hopefully faulty - replace it... STILL ON - have engine checked out - it is losing pressure somewhere

1984 New Yorker 2.2 Turbo oil pressure low on ilde

I think you have a suspect oil pressure sender unit. Replace it as they are cheap and need to be reliable and it will be cheaper than getting the oil pressure tested. If the light still stays on with the new sender you may have internal wear or a partial blockage. If the light stays on you need to have it urgently checked by a mechanic or you could risk serious engine damage.

Check engine light - low antifreeze

Chanses are the shop did chk. the coolant in the resavor and probly top it off but did not chk.the radiator witch was low and it drew out of resavor to fill radiator witch is the correct way to fill the radiator, just fill it back up with 50/50 (no water.) I don't think that would make the light come on, as you have a low coolant light for that. For piece of mind have it scaned to find out way the chk.engine light came on.

Low oil pressure light keeps coming on

check if there is too much oil. over filling the engine with oil causes the oil to foam which leads to loss of oil pressure. it could also be the oil pressure sensor
