Question about 1998 Toyota 4Runner

98 four runner 3.4/v6 --check engine light blinks after a short (2-4min) drive @ 70mph-slow down and the light will go out--I don't feel any difference in the engine when the light is blinking (such as missing, popping, etc--I have changed plugs, wires and one time we got a code for a misfire on 2 and 5, so I changed the coil pack on # 5 cyl which also fires #2--but the light still blinks after that--??

SOURCE: toyota 4 runner 1998, recurring

Hi! Pretty much a PCM (powertrain control module) problem. The PCM has connectivity on all electrical current that runs inside the car including the engine, transmission, accessories, etc. If the PCM is faulty something will surely fail, one good example is the bad reading on the scanner. Please try to swap PCM and see how it goes. Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa!

Hello
It is very possible that this is a software problem, this car uses a system that went into use in 1996 and is the 1st electronic engine control system (known as OBD2) that has the ability to monitor all of the systems that control pollution, misfire monitoring is one such monitored part in the system, software was written to determine when a individual cylinder fell out of the acceptable tolerance of power output and thus triggered a code to be set and the check engine light to come on, many car ,makers including Toyota made the tolerance's to tight and this triggered a misfire code when no real problem exists, to find out if a reprogramme of the PCM (Powertrain Control module) is needed you must contact a Toyota dealer and they can run the symptom on the computer and see if anything shows up, if no need of a reprogramme shows up to fix this issue you do have a problem somewhere in the system whether you fell the misfire or not, the reasons for this can be dirty fuel injectors, engine mechanical wear to rings and valves and a plethora of other issues, only careful testing of the entire engine and systems that control it can determine the actual cause of the misfire. My experience is 30 years as factory trained and certified master tech in electronic engine control theory and operation and repair.

SOURCE: 2002 toyota tacoma v6 4x4. I had a multipel

I was having the same problem changed plugs, plug wires, coil packs, cat converter and had injectors flushed....cost quite a bit and nothing fixed the problem. Over 1000.00 spent before changing the injectors and this fixed the problem perfect. My truck now runs like new and I hope to get another 185,000 miles out of it......have the injectors checked and use "seafoam"....good luck

SOURCE: Toyota four runner 95 v6 it doesnt start makes

if your battery is fully charged, then your starter celliniod contact is probably worn out.

you can remove your starter and have it tested at an alternator/starter specialty repair/rebuild shop. if the cellinoid or cellinoid contact tests bad, then you can replace either of those for just a few dollars.

if the entire starter tests bad, then you can usually have it rebuilt for around $100.

My 2003 ford mustang is sputtering and the check engine light is blinking no code

You can get a free scan from Autozone, Oreilys, or Advance auto parts. This should indicate a problem. If the standard test scanner does not verify a problem, the Dealers have more advanced scanners which can capture intermittent problems.

There are so many possibilities that you need more tests to find the problem. Offhand, if this is a V6 engine, there were problems with intake Manifold runners and sandwich gaskets for 2 piece intake manifolds.

Stuck manifold runners could provide lousy low rpm performance and perfect high rpm performance just like you describe whether a V6 or V8. The 2 piece intakes were used on V6 engines and once you get above midrange in Rpm, it could run acceptably at higher Rpm.

Oil gauge goes to 80psi while I'm driving 70mph on highway, drops when I slow down. Why?

They are designed to change as the motor changes speed. If you have 80 lbs. of oil pressure than you have very good oil pressure in your engine. If it gets higher than 80, I would talk to service dept. at your local dealer.

I stepped on the gas the car took off then immediatley slowed in power. The engine light came on and started blinking. I could drive the car, but only at slow speed. 2007 Mercury Milan V6. Any ideas

when the check engine light blinks this is a sign of misfires but your going to need a scanner to determine which cylinders misfired and clear fault memory i would then recommend swapping coils and plugs from cylinders that misfired with ones that didnt and see if misfires migrate to determine bad coils or plugs

What is the codes for a 95 dodge caravan 3.0 v6 it's blinks twice

The 95 Caravan is great for giving you trouble codes. However they are two digit codes. There should be a blink sequence followed by a short pause then another blink sequence (example 2 blinks, short pause, 3 blinks... Then 5 blinks, pause, 5 blinks which means no more codes. Turn key from off to run three times and leave in run and watch check engine light to count blinks. Disconnecting negative terminal on battery for 30 seconds clears codes.
