Without knowing the year and model of your Toyota. I'm gonna take a guess (which I hardly do) and say to check your ignition switch. Thats with regards to power distribution. As far as gear shift. .... It might just need to be adjusted IF possible. Some vehicles this item may have to be replaced. Unless your really handy with a volt meter and have a good back (especially for probing out that ignition switch) you may want to send this job to a repair shop.

Testimonial: "Thank you. I wonder if there is an electircal component in the ignition switch that keeps the gear shift locked after the engine start."

There may be a way to manually release the switch via the console ( providing the shifter is on the floor) But your gonna need a shop manual for that.

The problem has been solved. Aparently the fuse controlling the alternator had burned out. The car will start because a separate fuse controls the ignition. So long as the battery has power the car will start, all other components are powered by the alternator which was not getting power.

Unable to shift out of park upon starting. Pressing on brake petal upon shifting. Also noticing my brake lights are not coming on during this procedure. Owners manual mentioned about the gearshift anti...

Sounds like since the park lock and the brake lights are both inoperative, the faulty component would be the brake light switch which should be just above the brake pedal under the dash.

More info, let me know.

You need to revisit the fuse box ,, there may be more than one ! If you think the dashlights fuse are intact , check by switching on/off the side lights while checking the fuse. The fuse beside the side lights fuse should also be a side light fuse. They are handed LH and RH for safety reasons and check you have both side lights in the front. Power locks may be a dash switch /plug connection. Worst case senario ,(temperarily) remove radio and remove any fault you may have introduced into the system . A small bulb type tester will be a great help ! Good luck

Try unhooking the battery, turn key on, leave door open, then connect battery, start engine immediately. The battery saver module thinks it's saving your power!!

Gearshift locked, no power windows, interior lights, wipers

For starters, do you have brake lamps? The shift lockout is controlled by the brake switch. As far as the others, yes it could be the GEM (generic electronic module) some of these vehicles have water intrusion problems that leat into the fusebox and GEM which is located on the back of the fuse box. If you can look at the fuse box inside the vehicle and if you can see the back, look for corrosion which is a sign of water.

Engine won't turn over

the starter relay is on a module conected to the radio relay....the starter must be cold when starting or it will not start in this problem on this vehicle....in other words you have a bad starter relay.:)
