Question about Volkswagen Golf

1 Answer

Car starts no problem first thing in the morning. when i leave for 10 minutes and attempt to start again i find the engine wont turn over or takes about 10 seconds for the engine to kick in. If i do short journeys throughout the day it happens every time. I have changed the sensor and put injection cleaner through the system. Those are the two common faults so im told. So i need help on what to do next. Many thanks

The make and model is seat toldeo 1.9tdi. Sorry

  • JIMMY Sep 30, 2010

Never heard of a "Seat Toldeo" but based on what your telling me sounds like its the main engine relay( sounds more expensive than it really is) .The relay gets hot and you have to waite a while for it to cool down before the contacts close anf you can start the vehicle. This is providing you can hear the car crank when it happens ... the vehicle just doesn't fire up. because if you don't hear a crank then its something else.

Sorry for the type O's. and , The vehicle doesn't fire up but does crank. Because

Sorry im so new to this the vehicle is seat toledo made by VW same engine as VW Touran 1.9 tdi 2004. It always starts but really struggles. Sometimes when i turn the ignition, its dead, this is after ive driven the car, switched off the engine, after about 10-15 mins i try to start and this is the result. I live in Spain and trying to find a reptuable dealer thats not going to rip of a female is quite a challenge.

Carolyn thanks for make and model I'm gonna go through notes to see the various fixes I used on this vehicle I'll get back to you soon One Question? What was the name of the sensor they keep replacing?

  • JIMMY Oct 01, 2010

I don't know if you have a diesel or the V6 fuel model. Diesel has a mechanical fuel pumpso fuel is not likely an issue .The v6 gasoline model has an electeric fuel pump and thats about 1,000.00 to repair. What I would tell the Techn's out there to do is to scan the vehicle's ECU for codes (you should have gotten a check engine lite with this defect) and we will take it from there. Code will tell whats wrong with the vehicle. If no codes were found have them clean out the air intake port (its usually full of carbon) and see what happens. Hard to diagnosis without having all the particulars on this vehicle and the vehicle itself in front of me. Good luck

Car always starts in morning.but when you park and leave it for 2o minutes it cranks but isnt getting fire to plugs.i pulled one and checked that.iam sure it is electrical.what could it be?

Jim, this may be something I call VaporBlock:

Try several things:

When you've started the car (in the morning) let it idle (or drive it around the block a couple of times or so -- to get it warmed up -- I mean HOT) then turn if OFF;
and, wait 10 minutes - then try to start it...

IF it starts after the first 10 minute; then, it is NOT VaporBlock, and you'll need to drive it to a mechanic.

I this doesn't start, wait 30 (additional) minutes - then try to start it...

IF it doesn't start the after the first 10 minutes or 30 minutes; then, you may have to wait and hour -- and try it again, because you have VaporBlock.

You will have to find the "sweet-spot" of time to wait before trying to start it, or take it to a mechanic to get this issued fixed.

I used to pack my carburettor with snow to cool it down when I really needed it start again in a hurry!

I do hope this helps...

Just replaced the ignition in 2005 impala how go I recode it to start the car

Takes about half an hour,be sure battery is charged, crank engine and leave key on(like you would if it started) security light should blink or stay on for about 10 minutes, when it goes out ,turn key off, crank engine again and leave key on,same thing for about 10 min, have to do this 3 times,3rd time engine should start and you're done.

Passlock dont starter

The Passlock system is notorious for failing. There are 3 different parts of this system that can shut down the car and activate the Antitheft security system. The problem will be one of these 3 things. The key. the ignition lock cylinder, or the TDM. The easiest one is the key. The key will either have a small black chip in the key shaft or a transponder hidden in the key head. If there is a chip, they are known for wearing down and not reading correctly. Try wiggling it, cleaning the chip with alcohol, and taking all other keys off the key chain because it pulls on the key and causes problems. If you have no chip and instead a transponded key, (it will have a little "+" sign by the plastic) you can try performing a relearn procedure. It goes like this.

1. Perform a security system relearn.
2. Let the vehicle sit for more than 10 minutes with the key off.
3. Attempt to start the engine, leave the key in the run position monitoring the security system indicator.
4. After 10 minutes, the security indicator will change state.
5. Turn the key off and wait 10 seconds.
6. Attempt to start the engine. If the engine stalls, wait another 10 minutes with the key on.
7. After the second 10 minute timer has expired, turn the key off for 10 seconds.
8. Attempt to start the engine. If the engine stalls, wait another 10 minutes with the key on.
9. After the 3rd 10 minute timer has expired, shut the key off for 10 seconds.
10. The security system will relearn on the 4th starting attempt and the engine should start and run.
If that doesnt work, you will need to start replacing parts. Like i said, there are 3 parts. The key, the ignition lock cylinder, and the Theft Deterrent Module (TDM). all of these are involved in the Passlock system and could be responsible for shutting down the vehicle. And trust me they are all expensive. I always share this link for this problem because there is so much information on there and will be helpful no matter what you decide to do. If all else fails, there is PERMANENT FIX for this problem. You can bypass all aspects of the system and never worry again. That is also on this link.

Message centre error of a car with a lock through it, and the car wont start. What is wrong?

The car is in tamper mode. Leave the key in the ON position for 10-20 minutes to reset and retry. I would take it to the dealer to have the Passlock system inspected as soon as possible to make sure it does not happen again.
The car will go into tamper mode when it detects an unauthorized engine start attempt (such as a hot wire). It may also go into tamper mode if there is a Passlock malfunction inside the ignition cylinder.

My car is stuck in anti theft mode and I cant get my car to start

The problem is your Vats security system. This causes the car to either "not start" or "shut down" while running. (depending on the system) If the security light flashes, i guarantee that this is what the problem is. 1st trick, turn the key forward 2 clicks till right before it would normally start, leave like that for 10 minutes. ( no less ) After 10 minutes, turn key back then forward and your car might start.
Cheap fix:
----- http://vats.likeabigdog.com/
----- Bypassing the key
Never worry again fix:
----- http://newrockies.ca?ap_id=judd0081
----- With this fix, you can take that whole Vats, passlock, passkey **** system out of your car all together. Good info on both sites

Hello: Try this procedure, Turn key on attempt to start engine leave key on, the security light should be blinking, wait 10 minutes. The security light should be off. Turn key off for 10 seconds, turn key back on (DO NOT ATTEMPT TO START) wait another 10 minutes. Turn key off for 10 seconds. Do the procedure again as in step 2. At the end of the third time turn key off then ten seconds later attempt to start the car. It should start.

How do you star a 98 chavy malibu with tha anti theft light on

Here is what you do. make sure the battery is fully charged cause you dont want it to go dead during this process or it wont work. step down on your parking brake pedal and leave it down. this will keep the headlights off during the process so the battery wont go dead. turn the ignition key like you were going to start the car then leave the key in the on position. you have to leave the key in the on position for ten minutes. during the ten minutes you will see the anti theft or security light flashing or the display in the instrument cluster. when the ten minutes are up the security light will go out. once the light goes out attempt to start the car. if it doesnt start turn the key all the way back to the off position count to three then attempt to start the car then leave the key in the on position another ten minutes till the light stops flashing again. sometimes it takes up to three ten minute cycles to reset the antitheft system. so basically you do the same thing three times leaving the key in the on position for ten minutes each time so it will take approximately thirty minutes. sometimes it will work on the first try though.

My car turns over like it wants to start but never connects. Also the security light came on yesterday and this never happens. What could be wrong?

If you have the second ignition key's with you try it.  If not try this, it takes about 30 min to do. 30-Minute Learn Procedure 1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF. 2. Attempt to start the engine, then release the key to ON; the vehicle will not start. 3. Observe the SECURITY tell tale light. After approximately 10 minutes, the light will turn OFF. 4. Turn OFF the ignition switch, and wait 5 seconds. 5. Repeat steps 1 through 4 - two more times - for a total of 3 cycles of 10 minutes. 3x10 = 30 minutes. The vehicle is now ready to relearn the Passlock Sensor Data Code and/or passwords on the next ignition switch turn from OFF to CRANK Important: Turn the Ignition Switch OFF. The vehicle learns the Passlock Sensor Data Code and/or password on the next ignition switch transition from OFF to CRANK. You must turn the ignition OFF before attempting to start the vehicle. 6. Start the engine. The vehicle has now learned the Passlock Sensor Data Code and/or password. 7. With a scan tool, clear any DTCs if needed. History DTCs will self clear after 100 ignition cycles. Without a scan tool you may have momentary starter interruptions while history clears itself. Good luck and hope this helps, keep me posted, be glad to help.

Engine wont start

Try this: attempt to start car. Leave key in "on" position for 10 minutes. Turn key off for 30 seconds. Attempt to start car. Leave key in "on" position for 10 minutes. Turn key off for 30 seconds. Attempt to start car. Leave key in "on" position for 10 minutes. Turn key off for 30 seconds. This lengthy proceedure is the pass-lock relearn. Should crank after this unless something is unplugged, body control module is bad, or other security issue.
