Question about 2001 Chrysler Sebring

1 Answer

I recently got a 2001 Sebring coupe and over the past week or so the clutch pedal has slowly started to feel loose. Sometimes it would grind a bit trying to go only into 2nd gear. Didn't happen that often but I got in the car today and the pedal pushed easily to the ground and wouldnt go into gear with the car on. Shifter moves between gears fine when the cars off. Clutch was replaced at 40,000 miles already and the car has 130,000 on it now. Does this sound like the clutch is out or maybe just a bad cable?

Sounds like the cable is bad or stretched- best to have it ALL checked by a professional imo.

Not sure why you replaced master and slave. might be disc or pressure plate problem. If not, then you still have some air in the system. I suggest using a MitiVac which uses vacuum instead of pumping the pedal. It is an easy tool to operate and only requires 1 person, you squeeze it by hand. Sometimes it can be stubborn air bubble, but you must have full pedal travel to clear the gears when you shift. Hope that helps.

loosen the line at the master cylinder to allow the master cylinder to prim properly then bleed out the system. There is still air in the system.

Adjustment for the clutch pedal on 2001 Sebring

The clutch is a hydraulic type and is self adjusting, there is no adjustment of any type. If the clutch is not fully releasing the clutch disc is worn out and you need a new clutch installed.

Clutch issue after throwout bearing instal

once you have bled out all the air ,if the pedal still engages right down then suspect the fingers on the release plate are worn.Never replace a part of the clutch, allways change all 3 components,it save all the hastle of taking it to bits again and again.

Clutch pedal noise

Check to see there is anything loose. Put the car bumper against something and put it in first gear. Now slowly let go of the clutch. If the cars engine turns off your transmission is good. If it does not turn off or has trouble going off, then you may have a clutch , throw out , or transmission problem.

Tdi clutch pedal pushed all the way down but hard to shift gears

Check your clutch fluid level, sometimes a seperate reservoir (drivers side on firewall), some clutch systems take fluid from the brake system (check brake fluid). If thats ok then the clutch slave may be failing.
If the clutch fluid is low refill it and check for leaks (or just wait till the symptom comes back). If it's happens often then theres a leak in the line or the slave somewhere.
