Question about 1986 Volkswagen Jetta

My 1989 Jetta2 is over heating when my car is idling. What can be done and where do i find the thermostat.

Find the top hose going back to top of the radiator, going back towards the engine you will find a metal part with the hose and attached to the engine with few bolts, that's where it is.

That's just your computer thinking the engine is overheating and it's only placing it in what they call "Limp Home Mode".You just need to address the heat rise situation,it should not rise.Thermostat cares for that.Thermostat could be sticking and staying too far to the closed side.Replace the thermostat(V-6 can be hard to get to one bolt head but can be done with a box-end 12point wrench)and be patient with it.

Car heating issues in very frigid temps


It may be a faulty thermostat that is binding in colder weather.The thermostat opens and closs controlling the flow of the coolant.It almost completey keeps the coolant from circulating until reaching a pre determined temperature opening and closing to maintain that temp.It could be sticking wide open and colder temps thus moving the coolant too fast not allowing it tom remain in the engine block long enough to be heated.

I have a VW Jetta2, my car gets extremely hot and the temperature guage comes up till the middle or go slightly over the middle to the right, even if I drive on the freeway at 100-120km/H and the cooling...


sounds to me like your car needs a new thermostat. which is only about a 15 dollar item. thermostats open and close controlling the flow of the cooled coolant into your engine. sometimes the thermostats get stuck oppen or closed allowing your car to overheat. good luck

SOUND LIKE THERMOSTAT STICKING CLOSE.REPLACE THERMOSTAT AND RADIATOR PRESSURE CAP.ADD 50 /50 MIXTURE ANTIFREEZE AND WATER TO THE COOLANT SYSTEM.CHECK TO MAKE SURE WATER PUMP NOT LEAKING IF SO WATER PUMP NEED REPLACING. ALSO DO A QUICK CHECK.CHECK ENGINE OIL DIP STICK. IF LOOKS LIKE MILK SHAKE HEAD GASKET LEAKING.

1989 ford f 150 6 cilinder 4.9l is running hot how can i fix this


Start with a good coolant flush.(This should be done every 2 years anyway). Next move to (check or replace) the thermostat and then on to the water pump. Check all water hoses for hardness or blockage. (Bottom radiator hose should have a spring in it). Last, with your head behind the raised hood , idle the engine at about 12-1400 rpm and listen for the clutch fan to come in or go out. Good luck.

remove the gas tank sending unit and replace it with a new one or new filter end and your problem wiill be solved

Thermostat sticking


follow the top radiator hose to the top part of the motor and youll fine the thermostat there the housing is held on by 2 bolts
