Question about 2004 Chevrolet Suburban

1 Answer

The speedometer very intermittently will show say 50mph while sitting at a red light and maybe while driving down the road show 0mph - never consistent at the mph which are definitely incorrect. Dealership said I had to pay to repair something like $500.00. At one point it was covered under warranty if brought in before 70,000 miles. Mine didn't start until way after that. Now also while driving car info came on that said "battery not charging".

Your vehicle has an electronic speedometer. Either the sensor is bad in the transmission, or you have a wiring problem.

You can try replacing the sensor, but I would test all the circuits first.... if you can find a wiring diagram.

Speed

The speedometer is driven by a signal from the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS). The VSS is mounted on the Power Steering Speed Sensoron the top of the back of the transmission (differential housing). There is an electrical connector and two small screws that hold the VSS to the PSSS. Be careful, there is a small link (key) that is between the VSS and PSSS which mechanically drives the VSS.
