I had a similar problem with my car recently. After a complete tune up oil change and fuel flush I still had the problem. What I did to fix mine was to buy a bottle of Sta-bile brand fuel stabilizer with Ethanol treatment for marina and auto use make sure it is the blue bottle and not the red. The new fuel mix that we are forced to buy has up to 10% ethanol in the fuel which most older cars cannot burn as effectively and causes bad fuel mileage and will cause loss of power. Eventually the ethanol mixture will destroy the seals in the fuel rail by dissolving the seals and giving you major problems. The sta-bile will remove the ethanol from the gas and after a few tanks will restore performance. You will have to use the Sta-bile product every time you fill up unfortunately.
There was a similar problem in the 80's when regular leaded gas was replaced with unleaded.

2006 VW GOLF TURBO DIESEL 1.9 STARTS UP GOES 5 TO 9 MILES STALLS WAIT 5 MINUTES GO AGAIN AND STALLS

Hi. It would be useful to get a code read and some live data from a decent diagnostic tool. There are quite a few possible causes including, pressure in tank - if the fuel tank can't vent pressure then a vacuum will eventually form stopping fuel getting to the engine, this will cause it to loose power and stall. Then after a few mins the pressure will drop and the process start again, easy test is when the car stalls remove filler cap - if that's the fault there will be an audible hiss and the car will start up again.

part blocked exhaust will have same problems but will more generally cause a lack of power and acceleration.
are there other symptoms? i.e only when conering or only when pulling off or stopping, engine light on/off. Jon

My car stalls and die after driving several miles

If the fuel pump go bad, the car will stall while you are driving, as no fuel is getting pumped up to the engine. If the plug wires, plugs or coils in ignition system are bad and are causing the engine to misfire, the engine will run rough. This may also cause the car to stall when driving. There are other problems that can make a car stall in the ignition system, the fuel system or in the drivetrain. If the timing belt breaks, the car will stall. If the computer itself stops working, the car will stall. My 1999 grand prix stalls and dies at stops.

My Pontiac Grand Prix is also a 99, it has 216,+ thousand miles on it, it runs great, idles good, I need to replace the oxygen sensor tho as it shuts off on me while driving or sometimes coming to a stop. You might try checking the fuel filter and pump as well.

Per diagnostic codes i have replaced CTS and MAF on 1993 Mazda 626 2.5 6cyl, now it stalls and quits at a stop, does this have to do with clearing the codes after the work is done, does the computer need...

u followed the pin point tests for these codes you had? did you disconnect the battery after you installed new parts? sounds like u have not fixed the problem, you do have a repair manual correct? did you check the intake air hose for cracks on the bottom which will cause a stall? did you clean the idle speed control valve and the throttle valve, they can also cause this stall, never adjust the the hard stop screw, it will chnage nothing and cause all kinds of other problems, it is not the problem, most likely the intake is sludged up clean it and then disconnect battery for 5 minuter, driv about 50 miles and problem should clear up, if it doesn't you have other issues, recheck for codes.

1.car stalls out when you put it in gear, mainly reverse. 2.jerks and stalls when starting forward..A4..1.8T 2002 audi 1.8 turbo L4 FI 20V 112,000 miles

Sounds like your TCC (torque converter clutch) solenoid is causing improper lockup, causing the engine to stall. It works similar to putting your hand on a ceiling fan to stop the blades. I believe this is where you will find your problem.

Good Luck!

2000 bonneville w/3600 v-6 and 99000 miles never had problems, original owner. stalls sporadically but no codes come up on diagnostic. acts like a loose connection, feels like running out of fuel. NEED...

i had the same problem a few months ago. check your fuel filter. mine was on the car for some time and after replaceing it, car runs great. hope this helps. i would also check your air cleaner. if to dirty will run rich and with a dirty fuel filter your car will stall.

Stalling issue

If your car has high miles and you haven't changed the coil packs, that may be your problem. Bad coil paks will cause hard starting, rough idle and stalling.

Stalling issues

Here is the most common cause of surges and stalls and low idle rough idle, it is the idle speed control air-bypass valve and throttle valve (IAC for short), they get full of gunk over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.
