You should do a forum search with the type of vehicle you are trying to do it for. There are plenty of posts on this type of project under the forums. Some of them with pictures. For example:

How much tranmission fluid does it take to change on a 1969 Chevy ck 1500

Around 4 to 5 quarts. BUT, I wouldn't recommend you changing the fluid. Drop the pan and catch the fluid. Inspect the pan. if there isn't chunks of metal in it, I would only replace the filter and put the old fluid back in. Transmissions that haven't been taken care of have a real nasty habit of dieing when the new fluid is put in. Be prepared for a transmission rebuild or replacement.

Could you show me or tell mewhere the transmission filter is located on a 1997 ford contour 2.5ltr. v-6?

You have to drop the transmission pan with gasket to get to the transmission filter. About 5 quarts or so of transmission fluid will come out when you drop the pan. You have to buy a new transmission gasket. Do not reuse the old gasket.

What should I do to my 1994 Lincoln Town Car Cartier to tow a 2500 lb travel trailer?

A shift kit is always a good idea when hauling a trailer. It is a kit that is installed in the transmission made up of gaskets seals and other small parts. Fairly easy to install. This makes the car shift faster, without lag in between gears. Normally if you had a tachometer your car may drop 1200 RPM'S while shifting, but with a shift kit, it would only drop 600 or so RPM"S Easier on fuel, and easier on transmission. Good investment in my opinion. Happy travels and cheers from Nova Scotia

Got a new radiator to put in my 1993 ford e-150 but need instructions

first drain the old radiator you will need a 1/2 in or 9/16 tubing wrench you can rent one at auto zone the transmission fluid will come out so drain that in a pan also.make sure both top and bottom hoses are off loosen the shroud take the top plate off and remove the radiator do not use the old transmission fluid pick up 2qts of mercon dextron thats made for ford and it wouldnt hurt to pick up 2gal of antifreeze reinstall in reverse remember to put the trans mission fluid in and check to make sure its full when you fill the new radiator start the truck and wait for the levle to drop un till full good luck

Fluid coming from what looks like tranny. Im 17 yo and have a 66 tbird.

I can relate to your issue as I remember being 17 once. lol You need to be a little more clear on where you see the leak at. Jack the vehicle up and put it on jack stands or those little ramps you drive up on. Get under the vehicle and see if the leak appears to be coming from the front where it connects to the engine, the Transmission pan or the rear where the drive shaft comes out to go the the rear wheels. If it's the rear where the drive shaft connects its a pretty easy fix. If it's leaking around the transmission pan it's a pretty easy fix. If it's the Front near the engine it gets a lot harder because you have to drop the transmission to fix it. the other two can be fixed with the transmission installed. I recommend you get the Haynes Repair manual on your vehicle from the Auto Parts store to guide you through any of these repairs. The rear seal can be repaired by jacking the rear of the vehicle up and dropping the drive shaft then removing the old seal and putting in the new seal. The pan seal can be replaced by draining the transmission, removing the pan putting on the new seal and using silicon sealer, you might as well replace the Transmission filter while your at it, and putting the pan back on. Don't tighten those pan bolts too much or they will strip.

What do I need to do to replace the automatic transmission filter?

Drop the tranny pan...(loosen the bolts). Be prepared to allow the fluid to come out/drip out. Then remove bolts, drop the pan, wipe the pan out. Remove the old gasket. Remove old filter. Install new filter. Install new gasket. Install the pan and tighten the bolts to the specified ft/lbs. torque with a torque wrench.

Honestly, it's the transmission...bring it a shop and have an exchange done. Because you won't get all of the old fluid out, and you might as well do the whole service. Hope this is helpful.

How much should it cost to have the transmission flushed

probably should not cost over 120 dollars. That being said do not waste your money with a flush, drop the pan put in a new filter, and new fluid, not just old fluid that has been filtered.

Starter problems

if the starter head is chipped or worn away, it's a simple replacement, there's kits that you can buy for it, but if the flywheel is chipped away at the edges, you have to drop the whole transmission, take off the old flywheel and put a new one back on. Then you have to put the transmission back into place. It is a very long and painstaking process.
