    Error 04 CD player

  • mjj7000 Sep 11, 2008

I have a 2003 GX470 that error code 4 flashes on when CDs are in player; sometimes it will go away when engine is restarted. Sometimes it will not. I have not tried pulling the fuse to the unit. Right now I just want to get the CD out of the player and send in the unit for repair if it is worth fixing.

rx 330 problem with cd player error 4

  • inchulk Dec 02, 2008

    Just happened to me too.

    2006 Lexus RX330 AWD - 6-disc changer - no navi

Bought this a few weeks ago. Live in Canada. US vehicle.

I had 5 discs in the player - added a 6th (old burned CD - had a sticker on it too) - got the ERROR4 msg. Couldn't eject the CD, couldn't change to the next disc. When I'd push 'eject', it would just switch to FM1.

After turning the car on and off a couple of times, it ejected. The next disc then threw an ERROR3. I was eventually able to change through all 5 discs and eject them all (the other 3 played fine - two were burnt CDs).

I'm assuming that the ERROR 4 was thrown because of the sticker on the old disc - probably a very sensitive system. That problem caused a minor laser alignment error, leading to the ERROR 3 (read this on Lexus US/Canada Forum). I'm going to buy a cleaning disc and run that through this thing a few times. Not going to play old/scratched CDs anymore either, esp. not any with stickers on them (CD got stickered by Best Buy when I brought it into the store to test something).

Not sure I want to take this to Lexus for warranty - here in Canada they have to send this thing away for a few weeks; also, if they don't find a problem, I get charged $118! B.S. Sounds to me that even if I swap this out for a new one, the same problem can happen again if I ever use a screwy disc. I like the 'fuse' solution below - sounds like a quick way to fix this if it comes up again. Thanks!

my RX330 Cd player has same problem ( error 4). Does Lexus manfacture will consider this problem? Anyone has information about this?

  • DKSx2 Apr 04, 2009

I bought a used 2004 RX 330, loaded 6 CDs, and went my merry way. On the 6th disc, I got the Error '04; started trying to change tracks, eject CD, or get it to do anything. I couldn't eject any of the CDs or change tracks, or do anything except give messages; it alternated between Error 03 and Error 04. After we turned the car off and back on, we could eject a CD. We did this until the first 5 were ejected, but #6 won't come out, and won't play. We saw the 'remove fuse' solution and tried it, but nothing happened. But we don't know what (No 25) means; we don't have a fuse labeled like that. Can we get more detail? Thank you. DKS

I have my RX in the shop right now. The Lexus dealer (Tustin Lexus) told me i would need to replace the whole cd/radio system for $615 = $135 labor! I will try the fuse removal and see if this helps.

Hey...it's easy to fix. Open the fuse box under the hood. Find the audio fuse. Pull it out for 10-15 minutes to reset the cdplayer. Plug it back in and problem solved. If it still does not work just change the fuse. I had that problem and had to search high and low for a solution and found it
on some web site. IT WORKED...will save you $800 that Lexus charges to do the same thing.

Turned on the ignition and hurray !!!! it start working !!!! Ok the problem was i had a cd that i purchased from asia had a thick label on it and believe it or not that sticker or the label on the cd start melting and crumbled and started peeling off the cd cause of the heat and thats when it got stuck, WOW I pulled it out and boy it was messed up crumbled and almost bend ! Trashed it right away.
Good Luck
ps: keep in mind do not try this with the key in the ignitaion use safety precaution or have someone help you .

Thank You! For the post it was exactly what I needed. My situation is very similar...I had just left the dealership last Saturday

The 'Error 04' started shortly after I inserted a new CD. The player was set on 'random" and would play util the 'Error 04' came up. I couldn't do anything. Then I pulled the radio fuse, with the key off, (No.25) on my RX 330. I was able to start the CD player and I ejected all of the discs. I put in six new discs and the player worked great. I inserted the suspect disc again and got the 'Error 04" again. I did the fuse thing again and was able to eject the bad disc and put another one in. So far it's working fine. I think the problem was the disc and by pulling the fuse the radio reset itself. Hope it works for you. Owen

When you state that the key is off, is it in the ignition at all, or completely out of the ignition? Also, is the battery connected the whole time, just the fuse is fulled for some time then reconnected, at which point you start the car?

Have you changed a battery or had a flat. You might want to try putting each window down and up and hold for a few seconds when u get to the bottom continue to hold and then up again. Do this to all windows

I put in a cd and receive and E-00 error code. Is

Hi pcrouthamel, you may have a solution to this, but again you may not.

I have an '04 Ody and also had the E-00 error code when trying to play a CD. There are many suggestions as to what it may be and speculations as to how to fix it. The vehicle manual indicates it's a 'focus' issue.

Here is what I did based on internet research and recommendations and what occured:

1) checked both fuse #9 and #11 (pulled cleaned contacts and re-inserted) -- no fix
2) changed the battery in the Ody (is was due anyway) to address the possible low voltage issue -- no fix
3) inserted a CD, and before it was enter all the way, pulled it back out -- no fix
4) same as 3, but after pulling the CD out, gave the upper portion of the CD player a few firm bangs (literally - crazy I know) -- no fix
5) pulled the dash off (way easier than you may think) and removed the radio; pulled the top plate off to see if there were any obstructions within the unit such as coins or other material; shook it to ensure there weren't things I couldn't see; used a Q-Tip and worked it over the lense to clean it; tried another CD - no fix
6) in addition to 5, just as I inserted the CD for a second time, and while it was fully loading, I gave the heat conductor plate on the back of the radio several firm hits with the heel of my palm -- it worked!!

Apparently, there is more to the 'focus' issue than the vehicle manual leads you to ascertain. Like many DVD and CD players, the laser runs on a carriage. Sometimes this carriage can become misaligned; perhaps from hitting a pot hole too hard. My movement of the carriage while the CD was loading, had put it back in alignment. Now my CD player works.

Hope this helps.

CD player Error 3

dear,
I have different experiance with the C.Dplayer ( error 3 ) , there is no need to remove it nor send it to the dealer ,all you have to do when you have `` Error 3 `` is to reset the C.D player , by recycling the power supply ,this can be done by disconnecting the main car battery power supply , you must also keep the battery disconnected for at least one hour . then connect the cables to the batteries ,when you start the C.D player you will hear some clicking sound ,and watch the numbers of the C.D`s in the display you will find all what is inside has been detected by the display .
and your C.D player is back to normal..

i discovered ths by chance , when I had this error in the past ,coincidently I had to replace the battery and after installing the new batteries ,i was suprised to see the player back to normal condition by its self.

CD Player in Acura TL 3.2 2003

It's not that hard to fix it yourself.

for your 2003 TL
1. first remove the CD player (this is the hard part).
2. with the CD player removed, unscrew the top cover (4 or 5 screws) on the CD player.
3. with the top cover removed you can see the stuck CD.
4. all you have to do now is just push the CD out and reinstall

should be the same for your 04 TL but im not sure

You could try a laser lens cleaner (the one that looks like a CD with little brushes on it) to see if that'll do it. There's no guarantee that the problem is with the laser eye though. If it is (such as just being dirty or dusty) then this may do it. If not though, that error code may indicate a more permanent failure of the head unit.
