Is the fuel level sensor the same as the map sensor?

    I was driving on the highway and removed the O/D so I could accelerate faster, about 2 hours later the check engine light started blinking. I pulled over and checked the oil and every thing. The 2 codes that read where fuel level sensor, and Map sensor problems. The light since stopped blinking and stays on. The pvc hose behind the manifold is fine and not collapsed, so Im not sure what to do. I ordered a MAP from parts geek, but I am now also hearing a tick from the engine, It goes with the rev of the motor, and while in nutral and also while in drive. It sounds like what I have read described as a valve clap and It seems to be coming from the Battery side of the engine while listening with a cone.

    Im not really financially able to go to a mechanic, and was in the middle of moving while all this is going on, any advice would be awesome.

No they are not the same map sensor is manifold air pressure and fuel level sensor is the tank level sensor

    I have the same problem with my fuel level sensor in my 1997 mazda mpv, Where can I buy a replacement sensor? Also It triped the code for the fuel pressure sensor/MAP. I ordered one from parts geek, should have it in a day. Im hoping I did not rush into buying something I did not need. They dont have the fuel level sensor listed as a part, Perhaps I must buy the whole assembly?

I HAVE HYUNDAI CAR 2002 SHOW HTIS CODE P0106 AND P0172. WHAT IS THE DEFFRENCE BETEEW MAP/BARO, VAF/MAF.


MAP = mass air pressure, Baro is atmospheric air pressure ( as in barometer), VAF = volume air flow and MAF = mass air flow . The baro sensor alters the air fuel mixture for varying altitudes that the vehicle can travel through. IE from flat plains at sea level to over the rockis.. The VAF sensor measures the volume of air passing through the air intake . The MAF measures the combination of volume and the density of the air flowing through the air intake to adjust the air fuel mixture as cold air is more dense and requires more fuel to burn completely. The MAP measures the vacuum in the manifold after the throttle control to adjust the air fuel mixture in over run situations so that the car will not backfire. All these sensors continually supply input to the ECM which continually compares them with the O sensors and adjusts the injector pulse to ensure complete burn of the mixture in all situations and engine rpm's.

on all cars, (in general,) the map can be only for EGR
or for FUELING. (the latter is called the SPEED Density System)
is this a USA car, and not Canada. (i dont do the market thing that is your job to tell me,or open hood and show me...)

MAP the out side diagram or the inside,
it is just an barometic sensor. some cars have 3 of them.
one for altitude , that you have yet to discover.
my guess ? i can t there are 3 engines. 3.5/3.8/4.0 liter
ill take a wild guess and land on 3.5L
the online fSM shows 21 diffr. (ign/fuel) systems.
the first 3.5l does use a 3 pin map and is the SDS, (map controls the AFR, there is no MAF air meter on car)
pin 1 is map signal out
pin 2 ECU quite ground.
pin 2 is 5vdc , refer. supply from ECU, also used for EGR feed back power at the EGR solenoid.

is that what you need?
the output is 0v-4v or tad more
and is an non linear function, that looks like the below.
your FSM will have batter facts.

this MAP is absolute type, that is it reads max.
under the full pressure of the atmosphere at sea level
or about 14.7 PSI.
here is a rev, engineered map as a guide, diff, car.
but works just the same way

Map sensor location


Located on top cylinder on transmission side.The MAP sensor is located either directly on the intake manifold or it is mounted high in the engine compartment and connected to the intake manifold

Plug the vacuum line you unplugged and the idle should come back. Change your air filter and the map sensor. check for correct coolant level and replace the coolant temp. sensor. This sensor affects cold starting and idle through the ECU (open loop mode, rich fuel mapping and 1200 rpm idle) It should go to closed loop mode in the ECU once engine warm up is achieved ( lean fuel mapping and normal 900 rpm idle). Do not unplug anything else till you perform an OBDII scan of the stored fault history

WE ARE HAVING PROBLEM FINDING DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE FOR CADILLAC DIVILLE WITH DTCs P0029,P0047,P0137 and P0107


P0029 - Exhaust Valve Control Solenoid Circuit Range/Performance Bank 2
Causes:
- Dirty engine oil
- Low engine oil level
- Exhaust valve control solenoid circuit open or shorted
- Exhaust valve control solenoid circuit poor electrical connection
- Faulty exhaust valve control solenoid

Solutions:
- Change oil
- Replace exhaust valve control solenoid

P0047 - Turbocharger/Supercharger Boost Control A Circuit Low
This vehicle is not equipped with a turbocharger or supercharger if it is a 1994.

P0137 - o2 Sensor Circuit Low Voltage Bank 1 Sensor 2
Causes:
- Sensor circuit harness or connectors is open or shorted
- Rear heated oxygen sensor Bank 1 may be faulty
- Fuel pressure may be faulty
- Fuel injector may be faulty
- Intake air leaks

Solution:
Replacing the O2 Sensor 2 usually takes care of the problem.

P0107 - Manifold Absolute Pressure/Barometric Pressure Circuit Low Input
Causes:
- Damage harness or connectors
- MAP sensor circuit is open or shorted
- MAP sensor
- Damaged PCM or ECM

Solutions:
- If damage, repair MAP sensor harness or connector
- Replace MAP sensor
- Replace PCM or ECM

Can a bad map sensor cause a 2002 nissan maxima to have problems going above 2000 rpmscar runs has engine code for bad map sensor but will not go over 2000-2200 rpms so you canot really accelerate normally...


If the sensor is bad it causes the computer to change air/fuel mixture for the fuel injection and would have that effect,other possible causes would be a clogged fuel filter or the fuel pump is going bad but you need to change the map sensor if it is sending a code.

check the oil level make sure your are using the right weight for your time zone, check the map sensor and the knock sensor, make sure check the fuel pressure at the engine
