Can you if so how do you set timing with only using btdc and distributor on a 94 4runner

Ignition timing manual setting 1994 Toyota 4 Runner.
- Remove the distributor cap.
- Pull up the hand brake, place the vehicle in P or Neutral.
- Rotate the crankshaft pulley with a suitable tool to bring the timing mark at 5 degrees BTDC and the reluctor position in front of No. 1 position in distributor.
- Remove the rotor and adjust the distributor (by loosening two distributor locking bolts) in such a way that the No. 1 reluctor tooth just cross the G1 pickup coil notch in the direction of rotation in the distributor.
- Lock the distributor bolts, install rotor and install distributor cap.

1999 camry timing

The '99 should never have to be "timed".
Did you loosen the distributor?
Was the engine apart?
There is a timing mark. refer to the emission sticker, under the hood or on the hood.
There is a spec for it. Follow the procedure for timing.

I just need to know what to set the timing at on a 1500 cc engine. I have no spec sticker to refer to. Thanks

This is taking me back some...have not seen one of these for years......

Spec's are usually a sticker on the underside of the hood with timing and valve gap clearances.

On the crank pulley is a notch or pointer for TDC . On the front cover, next to the pulley, are about 4 timing lines . The hood sticker tells you the notch to line position for timing as these lines on the cover where painted different colours.

Being as you have no sticker...time it at warm idle speed with the pulley pointer/notch to the first line on the cover with a timing light.

To highlight the marks you can dab them with White Out or similar. Without a timing light you can only approximate the timing be rolling the engine forward while watching for a spark from the #1spark lead jumping to ground with an old plug in the end of the wire.

Another way is to drive and then stop to advance the timing at the distributor until you hear pinging on full acceleration from low rpm's. Then back off the timing a few degrees until the pinging stops.

A l-o-n-g time ago....we used to time engines with a vacuum gauge plumbed into the manifold down stream of the throttle.

Run the warmed up engine at 3500 rpm steady, with vacuum lines to the distributor removed and plugged, advance the timing until highest vacuum reading...usually around 19 to 23 inches vac'. Then back the timing off 3 degrees or 2" to 3" inches of vacuum and leave it there.

Road test for performance and pinging.

I need a new battery on my '97 honda accord. can't figure out if it's 4 or 6 cylinder. it's used and i don't have a manual. how do i figure it out?

There is a lable (sticker) in engine compartment with info for this car, might be on the hood or radiator support or fender well areas.
See what lable you can find under the hood and read them all , one of them has specs for the engine size.
2.2l - 4cyl.
2.7l - 6cyl.
The other way , see how many wires coming out of ignition distributor , if it's 4 - you have 4cyl. , if it's 7 - you have 6cyl.

96 Chevy Silverado Timing

the traditional way of setting your timing would be better, get a loan of a timing light, the sticker under your hood should tell you the spec. usually 10-12 degrees btdc at idle with the timing advance disconnected. the timing advance is a tan wire with a black stripe usually found behind a plastic relay cover on the upper passenger side of the firewall near the distributor. there will be 3 plastic nuts holding the cover. you can mark the harmonic balancer tdc with liquid paper so it is easier 2 see with the light.
