SOURCE: 2004 Chrysler Pacifica: Gear is stuck in park-

This car has several points on the transmission that look similar to the drain plug. If they removed the plug on the driver's side rear of the transmission, then they dropped a linkage from the transmission drive train and it is now sitting on top of the valve body instead of falling into place when you attempt to reverse. Have it checked by a certified transmission shop to verify this is the problem, then I would strongly advise you to make the lube shop pay for the repairs if it is. Hope this helps, good luck!

only have manuals here in spain,it sounds like the computer control of the gearchange is playing up,either the antitheft or a fault somewhere is causing this to lock in.try this i know it might sound stupid but if your stuck it might help.disconnect main start battery both terminals and hold the two together for about 30s then reconnect and try again but make sure vehicle is locked up and key in your pocket before try it, ,just in case it locks itself .Failing which try locking and unlocking door with master 3 times slowly then jump in quick and start within 15 secs.If none of this works then call dealer and hope they can diagnose fault quickly.

SOURCE: Shift lever stuck in Park

is the car paked on a level ground? if not and the car is slightly sloping backwards. you need to get someone to give it a little push while you attempt to move the gear to D position.

SOURCE: Car stuck in Park, wont switch gears

check to see if the brake lights come on it may be a problem with a brake switch under the dash not letting the shift lock release. there may be a seperate switch just for it so check and see it there is two switches touching the brake pedal lever if the brake lights come on.

I have a 2005 Chrysler Pacifica. It is making a grinding noise, and won't drive, reverse or stay in park. It was shifting gears perfectly before everything stopped working. Any idea?

Check the CV axles first. They can pop out and cause your noise and won't keep the vehicle from moving in park. Replace the axle/s if they did.

My 07 Pacifica will start but won't move out of park. Just clicks. Was told it may be the neutral safety switch?

No it's not the park neutral safety switch . It's the shift interlock system or what ever Chrysler calls it . It's a safety feature that won't let the transmission shift into gear unless you have your foot on the brake pedal .
What just clicks - explain ?

There is something lookalike Small blue motor under & behind the gear stick what is that???

Hi Im AL the owner of Big As Auto Repair.

If you are talking about the motor that's mounted to the back of the gear shift housing, that is the release motor that allows you to take it out of park. If that motor has gone bad then you will not be able to take it out of park. If that's the case you'll need the gear shift assembly. For further assistance go here:

When I turn the ignition switch to start the vehicle I often cannot shift the stick shift out of Park. If I immediately try to switch gears after starting the engine it usually works but if I leave it more...

ok the safety feature on an auto gearbox is that the gear select has a solinoid lock on the shift & you norm have to start engine first before you can select drive now if the engine is running & not allowing you to select a drive then for some reason the solinoid is losing its signal or going faulty or even the shaft needing a little lube IE: wd40 now my volvo won't even allow me to take the key out untill its in park hope this helps

Fix pacifica stuck in park

Are you parked on a significant incline? You may need to have your car CAREFULLY pushed slightly uphill by another vehicle while moving the shift lever. Not on a hill or a light uphill push doesn't help? Check to see if your brake lights are working. If your brake lights do not come on when you depress the pedal, your brake light switch or brake light circuit fuse may be the culprit, as that is where the release solenoid for your gear shift receives its power. Correct the brake light circuit issue and your problem will be cleared.
If your brake lights are working correctly, listen for a light click at the gear shift lever when you depress the brake. If you don't hear one, suspect the locking solenoid is jammed (can usually be corrected with a shot of oil, once you get to it).
Another possibility is that the shift linkage has jammed. Check the linkage for broken parts. It is also possible that the "parking pin" in your transmission has become jammed, especially if the car was run into while parked. If that is the case, you'll need to have the park pin replaced.

2006 Chrysler Pacifica- Will not shift out of Park, the steering wheel isn't locked, and the brake is releasing as it should. What else could it be?

Can't get out Park, starts ok, tried the manuel thing pressing
the pink release button, nothing. Had the car towed but
they had to hoist it on a truck. Was there a recall for this?
