You need to know what code is being stored as an error on your onboard computer. The easiest and least expensive way is to run by Autozone or Advance auto parts and let them hook the code reader to your car. There are so many different possibilities that it is not economically feasible to change parts until you get the right on by chance. So, find out what code your computer is showing, then repost on here with the code numnuber or numbers and you can get a better idea which parts need to be replaced. Also, it may take a week or two for your computer to analyze your system after it has been reset. It has to run through several cycles of stop and go, high speed and steady speeds before it will know if you fixed your problem. During that cycle time, it won't pass emissions even with the check engine light off. It will just tell the emissions people that not enough information is available.

2001 toyoto 4runner engine light on

Had same problem a couple years ago. It was my oxygen sensor. But to make sure, take your car to Autozone and ask them to diagnose the check engine light. Could be something a simple as gas cap, or Mass Air Flow Sensor which is located on air filter housing line which is located right before air filter. Buy a spray cleaner for sensor CRC Mass Air Flow Cleaner 3-4 bucks, and see if that works. Your car will pick up some horse power. If that doesn't help then get a new gas cap. (You prob need a new one anyways). If that doesn't solve problem then it prob is the oxygen sensor. That will run you like 120-150. Replace it yourself don't take it to mechanic it is a real easy fix just make sure u don't touch new sensor. Well that's about all I can think of so good luck my friend!

The check engine light comes on and it dies on occasion. It is intermittent. Had it scanned and was told the only fault was mass air flow sensor. Cleaned the mass air flow sensor, replaced fuel filter and...

Anytime you make a change to any part of the emissions system, its best to disconnect the
battery for a few minutes. If you don't, the computer retains the fault code and it will usually keep
coming back. When all power is lost to the computer, it will do a complete scan when reconnected
and engine started. Try disconnecting the battery for a few minutes then reconnect and see what happens.

I have a 1995 ford taurus engine stalls when idling and smells of gas when accelerating it bucks. Changed fuel filter, could it be mass air flow sensor?

Start with smaller problems and check the fuel pressure regulator, the mass air flow sensor for these vehicles is pretty pricy. Is the check engine light on? If so, head to your nearest auto zone and have them check for trouble codes. If the check engine light isn't on, its not likely your mass air flow sensor

Check engine & traction control lights on

It might be the water temperature sensor for the brain not reading the right temperature, causes wrong parametres in the warming up periode, and then the diagnostic lamp will show.
