Question about 1994 Toyota Camry

4 Answers

Won't start My daughter was driving her 94 camry to work friday when it started to act up. She described it like it had an air bubble in the gas line! She came to a stop light and it stalled. Wouldn't start after that. I've installed new plugs and rotor. Checked fuel pressure, is good at 50lbs. Timing belt is good and timing is right on. Getting spark to plugs yet it won't fire. Not sure what to check next. Car has 161,000 miles on it.

The engine is a 2.2L 4 cyl. Had a mechanic from Gemini (Used to be Firestone) look at it today. We checked spark which is good and strong. Checked ingniter module and it checks okay. Found small crack in coil under distributor cap but not signs of arcing. I did cover crack with silicone sealer. Condensor looks like it was warm as plastic like material on top looks like it got warm and melted and ran down the front of it. Although it didn't check bad with ohmmeter. He is coming back tomorrow to do a compression check and check to see if injectors are firing as they should. Pulled a plug and it was wet looking and smelled of gas. Can smell gas when cranking for any length of time. Seems to try a little to fire but never does very good while cranking.

Clamped off lreturn line from fuel pressure regulator and did not make any difference. My pressure is good at 50 lbs while starting.

As far as I can tell from reading the manual from Haynes it does not have a cam or crank sensor. I believe that is only on the six cylinder model. Do not have the check engine light on either. It does work though as it comes on when the key is turned on to verify it is not burned out.

Good thought Dan, but the EGR has nothing to do with fuel. Are you thinking of the fuel pressure regulator maybe?

Well, we both know at 161k, it isn't even broken in yet...

Depending on the engine, it uses either a MAP sensor, or a MAF sensor.

If its a MAP, check for a cracked vacuum hose going to the MAP sensor.

If it uses a MAF sensor, it should of thrown a check engine light.

Could also be a TPS sensor out of whack too.

Is the check engine light on??

Check the spark, if spark is weak it will not start, also if battery is weak it will not start, it will crank but most of the AMP from batttery is taken by the starter.

Check your cam and crank sensor or your igniter module

Is this a 4 cyl. or a 6 ?
It's possable the EGR valve is stuck wide open also causing it to dump fuel. Are the plugs wet after cranking for a while?

The fuel was siphoned out of my 2004 Buick Century and now my car will not start it acts like it wants to start but it doesn't turn over?

Go to your injectors push air release valve with a nail or something small to release the air bubble. Do this till squirts out gas.

94 Toyota Camry ignition lock cylinder issues

The problem of the car dying should be unrelated to the worn key and ignition barrel, as the electrical contacts only depend on the key turning, which it does.

The car may have -

- a vacuum leak somewhere in the intake tract. Look for a split in the big flexible coupling after the air cleaner

- insuffiicient fuel pressure. This might be a blocked filter, pinched fuel line (from a rock), failing pump, or a faulty overpressure release valve in the fuel rail. Get a fuel pressure gauge connected to the fuel rail and see what it reads.

Why would a 93 chevy Cheyenne just stop in tha middle of me driving it and thn wont start amymore the key turns over and acts like ita out of gas but.

Because something is defect. Or blocked.
Fuel line can be blocked or have an air bubble in it. But there are 1000 possible causes, why an engine does not run any more.

My 96 camery a/c compresor is not working beacouse no power in plug what is the problem

hello , your A/C system has a low switch and a high switch, not enough gas the compresser will not enrgize, to much gas the same. check your sight glass(located under hood, and start car max A/C) for bubbles in in system, if you detect air bubbles the system is low , and needs a rechage, time for wally world, get the can with oil,sealer,134a, detector in one. if it is to high (over filled) let some out, watch your eyes. if that don't work you may have to crack the system, and replace the dryer, filter, **** out the line.if the compresser or line has oil on them, the system is leaking and needs major repair. rots of ruck!
