SOURCE: 2002 Jaguar X-Type Oil Pan Gasket replacement

have you smashed the sump ??never seen one leak yet?? sure its not the front or rear end oil seals ??..sounds like you have the sub frame in the way ,evan if you remove this bolt you will not be able to drop the sump without removing or lowering the sub frame assembly as the oil pick up pipe stops you from removing the sump in situe. Its not difficult to drop sub frame just time consuming

SOURCE: changing oil pan gasket on 02 impala ls 3.8

The engine does have to be raised. The bolts are not easy to get to until the engine is lifted and the engine mount is removed. I'm doing this job right now and the book time is around 5 hours.

SOURCE: how much to change a oil pan gasket for 2001 grand prix 3.8 gt

If you want to repair the oil pan I would also check lower engine mount for leaking oil and cracks in anti sway bar near fitting's. This due to engine mount is oil filled. OEM sway bar is made of tubular steel and they crack easy. Replacement sway bar is solid steel. Here's the kicker. When they pull the lower frame to service oil pan. The engine mount and sway bar are attached to that frame. A honest mechanic should only charge for parts ($35 for mount and $100 for sway bar) and maybe a extra hour. My mechanic did all in 5 hours. FYI gasket is only $35 bucks. Good luck

How do I Change the oil pump

The oil pump is underneath the oil pan. Take the pan off and the windage tray and you will see it. Remove and replace. Don't try to reuse the old filter and make sure you install a new gasket on the oil pan.

How to change oil pump

well you got the cat by the tail
well jack your car and block it
take the engine motor mount bolts out
very carefully use a 4x4 and a floor jack and jack the motor from the front using the
damper pulley you do-nt need to jack it up very far
take out all the oil pan bolts once the bolts are out you will have to pry the pan loose
once you get the pan out remove the oil pump and scrape all the old gaskets out
and the pan clean the pan very well and paint it blue so you can see any leak you
might have when you reinstall the pan
now before you put the gaskets in use permatex (BLACK) it works well around oil
reinstall the oil pump reinstall the pan once all this is finished put the motor mount
bolts back in and out your car back on the ground and fill with oil finished

rember to check every now and then for leaks hope this helps you bob

I have a 2001 ford escape..3.0 v6. I have been finding small oil spots on my driveway from underneath my escape. I can't seem to find the leak. I'm hoping the seal on my oil plug is the problem because I...

It may be coming from the top of the engine and dripping down. I'm assuming you inspected under the vehicle and ruled out a leak around the oil pan gasket and front/rear seals. Check the valve cover gaskets for possible signs of leakage. It is really hard to pin point where the oil is coming from via chat without actually looking at the engine itself.

Dark, almost black looks like oil, but not sure, under the vehcile, about a foot from the front passenger tire

It could be oil coming from the oil pan gasket, or rear valve cover gasket, not uncommon for the Escape or the passengerside cv boot or transmission seal, you would have identify exactly where its coming from under the Escape.

Oil pan gasket leaks. It has been changed 2 times and now I am told that it doesn't take a regular gasket, but liquid gasket that is put on the oil pan. Is this true?

Yes this is true. I have always applied the RTV to the oil pan first in a liberal layer and then allowed to set up then applied a second layer and installed pan. Never had one leak after that.

Typically these are assembled wet (not set up) by the inexperienced. This allows most of the RTV to escape between the surfaces.

Oil pan drain plug

The drain plug is on the back side of the aluminum oil pan, your going to have to use a 15 mm socket to remove the oil plug.
Good luck and here is a link to changing the oil for your escape if your have not done it before. http://fordescapefixit.com/oil.html

Changing oil pan gasket on 1989 Ford Aerostar

drain the oil from the pan and remove the filter.
Lift the car up and secure it . So it will not roll or fall. Remove the bolts from the pan using a 10 mm or so and a rachet and small extension. There are several bolts all around the pan. Remove the pan and remove the gasket. Clean up the pan and remove all gasket material from the pan. Install the new gasket around the pan and replace back.
