Brake light and battery light stay on on dash it is a 2002 nissan maxima

This would not affect the brake light. Now that you have a new battery, unhook both cables for 15 minutes, then rehook to reset computer. See if this solves the problem with the lights, at least the brake light. If it does, then it can be the alternator unless both lights go out. Then it was a problem at the computer having to be reset.

You have a brake light switch attached to your brake pedal, may be loose or bad.Read what it says,if bad light will stay on,easy to replace, just disconnect electrical connector, then unscrew nut, then remove, the end piece clicks on and off,I have a 85 Nissan 720 truck, have replaced mine before years ago. Replaced vacuum hoses and need diagram of what hoses go where from the intake. Call starts then stalls unless given throttle. Then idles high but run fine at constant rpms but lags on take off.

Check the brake booster. Start the car and then switch it of and the brake should be normal. The diaphargm inside might be broken or there is a air leak somwhere.

Battery and brakes lights came on. 1996 RL

Bad grounds comes to mind firstly. I would go through all your grounds and make sure they are tight and well bonded metal to metal. Electrical related I would almost gaurentee, like poor connections or corrosion. Start with the easy **** first. Check the battery terminals for corrosion or loose connections. Clean them with the scraping tool regardless of condition (since it's already disconnected). Have the battery tested. From there I would start tracing down the grounds.

Does it happen only above a certain RPM? Rev your engine to 5000 RPM in neutral and see if the lights come on.

I've seen bad voltage regulators causing excessive voltage at high RPMs. When the voltage gets any higher than 16.5 volts, the battery and brake lights come on. look on some wiring diagrams for any common power or grounds between the brake light wiring and the charging light wiring, those spots will most likely have a problem if they share a ground connection or a fuse position.

Hope helps.

the switch can be sprayed with a light lubricant, like WD40, in worst-cases you will have to replace it.

Brake, charge, and rear tail lights warning lights stay on and then go off after a while. while they are on my cruse control will not work.

Your battery is not charging well. Probably the battery terminals are corroded. When you run the engine RPMs up high, the voltage goes up, overcoming the resistance of the corrosion and charging the battery, which allows the circuits listed above to operate properly.

Brake lights stay on continuous

Sounds like you have a jammed or bad brake light switch.  It is mounted on the brake pedal.  Check to make sure it isn't jammed somehow.  If not, you probably need to replace.  Hope this helps.
