They said my motor mount was broken my left front bottom on my 99 ford contour v4.is that the one you can see when you pop the hood and look down?

Where does the rubber hose by the transmission range sensor go to on a 99 ford contour 4 cycl


There is a small vent hose that mounts on a black plastic clip by the battery hold down bolt/ nut., if not properly installed fluid will leak from the transmission, while driving the vehicle, we had a new battery installed and the little hose dropped down toward motor.

Cant get the hood to pop so i can opennthe hood


If you have a inside hood release, the cable might have come off the latch system. If you can see the latch through the front hood seam or the grille, use a long screw driver or putty knife blade to trip the latch. If the latch release is OK, the POP-UP spring might be broken and you could use a coat hanger wire to pull up on the hood as the latch is released.

look under the hood and dash for broken vacuum lines as that is what as that is what actuates the air flow doors

Where is the speed sensor on a ford contour


REPLACE SPEED SENSOR IN 1996 FORD CONTOUR
(For Zetec 2.0L) Set parking brake, jack up car on front driver side. Remove Drivers side front wheel. Crawl under car by firewall. Look up on transmission (mid vehicle), you should see the bottom of the VSS as it screws into the top of the transmission - loosen VSS (turn 1/4 turn). Open hood, Disconnect neg cable from battery (safety first) remove 3 long bolts holding down air intake over throttlebody. Unclip air filter top cover. Disconnect MAF connector. Lift off entire top air assembly, disconnect IAT sensor from under intake tube by MAF and put whole assembly away. You need to remove the rest of the Airbox, close to the firewall is a rubber band O ring holding down airbox, unhook. Then Pull up on airbox. You need to pull hard, it is held on by pins that push through rubber donuts on each side of the box. When it comes off it'll make a huge pop and you'll swear you've broken something - you likely haven't. (It's super easy to put back, just push down - hard to remove though). With airbox off, you will see large wire harness, follow it back - as it reaches under the brake booster and throttlebody, you will see a small offshoot with a connector - that is the VSS connector. Even though it's fairly easy to see it's a PITA to unhook. One-handed shennanigans, and some cursing required. Some small hands or really long needle nose pliers would help. Be careful, don't mess up the harness/connector side. When it's disconencted, go back under car and unscrew VSS and pull up. Then install new VSS. Reconnect nrew VSS to harness connector - hard again but not as bad as disconnecting. Then put everthing back together in reverse

How do you change the motor mounts on a 1999 ford contour v6 (or 1999 mercury cougar) engine. The two bottom mounts on the front and back rails are broken.


I've seen people lift the motor slightly and stuff a chunk of a tire in there. Its actually better in some cases than OEM. You wont need to disconnect the motor from the trans. easiest way is to take the hood off and lift the motor just enough to get the old mounts out. There isnt anything real complex about a mount. Like I said... lots of people make their own. Probably more people pay the big bucks to have a pro do it and have genuin OEM part put in, and then pay with their credit card.

hey under the hood in the front there's a latch on the left side.
you either wana push it down and use other hand to pull up the hood or it might be the other way; push it up then lift up the hood.

my latch is broken also and i opened it like that. i hope you find the latch =)

1997 Ford Contour with a rough idle while stopped


This is a common complaint on these cars. I own a 96 myself.
Assuming that you engine is fine and runs smoothly under normal operation, and just is rough "feeling" at idle while stopped; then I would suggest changing the motor mounts...the mounts may not be broken, but the rubber isolators get worn and soft, and transffer normal engine vibration into the chasis of the vehicle. Mine was doing the same after changing the mounts good as new again.
Please note...don't use cheap mounts, by the better grade/quality mounts.
