what about vacuum leaks or the fuel injectors or low fuel pressure (could this be from a loose gas cap)
I suppose that the spark plugs is the least expensive place to start

After replaced and cleaned many parts that were suggested, I also replace the coolant temperature sensor on my 96 Lincoln Town car it works find now. It is about $12 and worth trying. Of course you need to clean the air flow sensor as well (need a T20? or T25 Torx wrench ) to access the sensor. Clean the throttle body as well.

What you mentioned is right but hard to DIY. You need some tool to know if the pressure is normal.
Did you mean the car was running OK, but after some repair, it gets P0300; or you have the car running rough, and you found out it is P0300? what repair was done?
For those check engine related problem, you can do (1) DIY, start from cheaper parts, replace one by one and see if the problem solved, you need a On-Board Diagnostic System (OBDII, about $60 for a basic one) to look for the error code. It might takes few weeks: do A this weekend, and do B next weekend. (2) Bring the car to a shop; but since they charge by hour, they usually replace many parts/sensors (include whatever you and I mentioned above). This will cost you some money but make your car run much better after. Here in California, if a car has check engine light on it won't pass smog check. The decision depends on what kind of car you have and your budget, and how comfortable you are working with car, and if you have the time, and space to work on the car.
Check engine light could be simple but also could be a big headache.

This indicates a random misfire. More than one cylinder is misfiring. Replace the spark plugs and plug wires.

If the plugs/wires have not been replaced in the last 75,000 miles then start there. It can be other things but start with the simple stuff before moving on to a more complex diagnosis. Highly unlikely that a random misfire is a fuel injector problem Loose gas cap will not cause this, Vacuum leak can cause this. Check all the vacuum hoses for cracks or leaks. You have to eliminate possible causes one at a time, and replacing spark plugs/wires is suspect if they have not bee replaced.

I have a 98 chevy lumina with 61k miles.what can I do about these codes, P0300. P1381

P0300 is a random or multiple cylinder misfire, and P1381 is a misfire EBCM (Electronic Brake Control Module) or PCM (Powertrain Control Module) Since you mentioned replacing fuel components, it could be as simple as a fuel injector being clogged up causing a cylinder misfire. Have you checked your fuel injectors?

Fixing code p0300

code p0300 refers to random/multiple misfires detected===causes --spark plugs-- HT leads --injectors --coils--low compression--- ECM
While it is common to jump on the plugs ht leads band wagon it is also very possible that the injectors are not working properly because of insufficient fuel pressure . Have a fuel manifold pressure test done to check pump/regulator / filter problems first

P0300 Code 99 Chevrolet silverado 1500 5.3L

Random misfire. Computer cannot figure out which cylinder is misfiring or it occurs randomly on all 8 cylinders. A friend of mine found his ABS system was kicking in while driving down the road, feeling like the engine was missing. Computer detected it as a P0300 random misfire. He removed ABS fuse and eliminated the problem.

I have a 97 chevy tahoe 5.7 i just did a intake gasket due to the one given out truck ran fine befor i took it a part but now it runs and throws the p0300 code has a slight rough idle

P0300 random misfire, slight rough idle good , by the way your repair is good you dont want a identified misfire, Lets start by what it is not. Not a misposition sparkplug wire you would of gotten that cylinder code, as misfire, Oh try this got carburator cleaner? spray safely along the intake gasket, How about inspecting the vacuum hoses especailly at the map sensor. Here the thing you got. a vacuun leak. on a 5.7 a vacuum leak causes random misfire, by definition P0300 means 2 cylinders or more. By experience its a vacuum leak

HI
P0300 is multiple misfires.
P0171 is lean burn on left bank 1 means drivers side
02 sensor is faulty. Your vehicle is over fuelling that is why your are getting P0300 code and the rotten egg smell. Good idea is to replace both 02 sensors.
