1997 olds gutless. Fuel gauge stuck past full. How to reset

Need to replace the instrument cluster or fuel gauge sending unit in the fuel tank or there is a BCM problem .BCM is a computer module if your not familiar with that . The BCM controls the instrument cluster indicators through the SPI serial data communication bus. Refer to Body Control Module System Check in Body Control System.
Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI) Data Line
The serial peripheral interface (SPI) is a three wire interface connecting the BCM to the instrument cluster. The SPI allows for the exchange of information. This interface is a synchronous serial data link where the BCM is the master and the instrument cluster is the slave. Because of the need for modules on the different serial data links to communicate with each other, the BCM acts as an interpreter, or master, for data communication between the class 2 and SPI data lines.
Driver Warning System
The BCM is responsible for the following functions:
  1. Interpreting all of the driver warnings sent by the control modules on the class 2 serial data line
  2. Sending the information to the instrument cluster in the form of a SPI serial data bus message
The following list of messages are sent by the BCM to the instrument cluster:
?€¢
Fuel gauge position

?€¢
Temperature gauge position

?€¢
Oil pressure

?€¢
Low engine coolant

?€¢
Check oil

?€¢
Volts

?€¢
ABS

?€¢
High beam

?€¢

?€¢
High temperature

?€¢

Well Gary , you should have it checked for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes . Not at a part's store , thier diagnostic tool only checks engine computer codes ! Your vehicle has a number of control modules , PCM/ECM - engine , BCM - body , ABS , Air bag , the instrument cluster has a microprocessor inside , an can set DTC'S as well. But the only way to read codes in most of these modules is with a professional type scan tool . The warning lights come on when you turn the key on as a bulb check an to let you know those systems are functioning . Could be your instrument cluster is defective or a communication network problem , do you know what a serial data bus or communication network is ? This is what the control modules share information on . Your 03 chevy has the IPC bus for data transfer from the BCM to the IPC . U codes are communication error codes .

Faulty electrical connections or wiring may be the cause of intermittent conditions. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems.
U2000
The IPC determines that the BCM transmitted data to the IPC is invalid for greater than 12 seconds. The IPC sends a message to the BCM via the SPI serial data in circuit indicating that invalid data was received.
U2001
The BCM determines that the IPC transmitted data to the BCM is invalid for greater than 5 seconds.
U2002
The BCM detects that the SPI serial data in circuit is less than 1.2 v for greater than 5 seconds.
U2003
The BCM detects that the SPI serial data in circuit is greater than 4.5 v for greater than 5 seconds.
U2004
The BCM detects that the SPI serial data out circuit is less than 1.2 v for greater than 5 seconds.
U2005
The BCM detects that the SPI serial data out circuit is greater than 4.5 v for greater than 5 seconds.
U2006
The BCM detects that the SPI serial data clock circuit is less than 1.2 v for greater than 5 seconds.
U2007
The BCM detects that the SPI serial data clock circuit is greater than 4.5 v for greater than 5 seconds.

Your vehicle also uses class 2 data bus .

Class 2 Serial Data Link
The class 2 serial data link allows the following modules to communicate with each other:
• The body control module (BCM)
• The electronic brake control module (EBCM)
• The integrated radio chassis (IRC)
• The powertrain control module (PCM)
• The Remote Control Door Lock Receiver (RCDLR)
• The inflatable restraint sensing and diagnostic module (SDM)
The class 2 serial data link allows a scan tool to communicate with the above modules for diagnostic and testing purposes.

What is code B2799

This Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) is output when the Engine Control Module (ECM) detects errors in communication between the Transponder Key Electronic Control Unit (ECU) assembly and the ECM, or in the communication lines. This DTC is also output when an engine start is attempted while the ECU communication ID between the transponder key ECU assembly and the ECM is different.
Possible causes Faulty Key Faulty transponder key amplifier Faulty Transponder Key Electronic Control Unit (ECU) Transponder key amplifier wire harness Faulty Engine Control Module (ECM)

Multiple engine codes 2001 chry town and country engine barely runs it surges, spits and sputters the main codes are po601 and po206

P0601 : ECM internal Failure.
it said that the ECM is unable to communicate with the SPI line.
probable causes:
shorted input sensor
shorted electrical circut
failed ECM .
------------ P0601 is Internal Controller Failure- Common repair is Install new PCM and program it. -------- The other code is related, Best thing to do, so you do not replace every part by trial and error, in this case have a pro hood up his computer and he can break it down to the main cause to fix that code, and the other one that is related. Thanks, MIke. Please rate my free advice accordingly

P0601 diagnostic code what is the mean , or whats is the problem

P0601 - Internal Control Module Memory Check Sum Error

Basically that means that there is an interal fault in the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). There have been many reported PCM failures on Chrysler/Dodge products although it is possible for this to happen on any vehicle. In Dodge/Chrysler products, a P0601 trouble code means that a serial communication failed inside the computer at least 6 times.

Symptoms: Likely, no symptoms will be discernible to the driver, other than the illuminated Check Engine Light. Typically the engine runs fine, gauges work, etc.

Causes: A code P0601 in most cases means the PCM has gone bad. This is possibly due to a short-circuit inside the PCM. Or, if you disconnect the wires/connector from the PCM while the battery is still connected, that may also cause this code.

Possible Solutions: With a P0601 OBD-II trouble code, the most common fix is to replace and reprogram the PCM. In a few cases the dealer may be able to reflash the PCM and get it working. But more than likely the PCM will need to be replaced and reprogrammed (we recommend you take it to a dealership for this). The good news is it *may* be covered under your emmissions warranty. So even if you're out of bumper-to-bumper warranty or powertrain warranty, check your warranty guide or dealer to see if this is covered.

Other people have reported that they cleared the code only for it to return again and again. Keep in mind that most shops can replace the PCM but not all can program it.

Other PCM / ECM Codes: P0602, P0603, P0604, P0605, P0606, P0607, P0608, P0609, P0610.

Hope this help to solve it (remember rated this).
