Question about 2001 Volkswagen Jetta TDI

1 Answer

How do you take out a secondary air pump in a 01 vw jetta gls 1.8t? The manual I have only has the 2.0 model pictued and on that model ithe air pump is right under the engine cover, but the 1.8 has something else over it(sorry don't know what that part is called). Not sure if I should take out parts on top of it to get to the pump, or if I should go under the car. I have instructions on how to take out the actual air pump but not directions on getting to the air pump.

SOURCE: fuel filter location

its located outside and next to the fuel tank. There is no specified replacement interval, but 95k might be a good time to replace it. There is no need to replace the fuel pump unless it packs up, there is also no need to drop the tank to do this either, it can be accessed by removing the rear seat bench, underneath this will be a plastic access cover giving you access to the pump.
the filter is underneath the car right next to the tank.

The secondary aux air pump needs to be removed in order to access the coil pack secured to the block. Remember the bolt for the coil needs to be torqued down to 7ft lb.

97 VW Jetta GLS, manual transmission. The speedometer stopped working & the fuel gauge is jumping around.

Hi Ken You seem to have two faults with your vehicle. One will be a speed sensor and the other possibly a bad connection. Take the vehicle for a diagnostic scan and pin point the problems (which the scan will do) and then sort them out. Regards John

Does a 2001 vw jetta 2.0 have an idle air control?

No, it does not have a IAC, Confirmed with the Dealer. This is for the 2.0 GAS but it does have a Secondary Air Pump and a Secondary Air Pump Control Valve.

The Major problem with the 2001 Jetta GAS is the Mass Airflow Sensor.......

The TDI is a Turbo Diesel and is not a 2.0

Why does my paid off 2000 VW Jetta GLS make a high pitch buzzy grinding sound. Is it the alternator ,transmission,or timing Belts. What do I do and how mauch can it run me. Am I still covered with the

The trick is to take off the belt and spin the different things and see if any of them make the noise you hear.
Water pump, alternator, power steering, air pump, belt tensioner pulley. You could also briefly (30 seconds) run the engine without the belt and see if it still makes the noise.

For prices, you can check autozone.com or partsamerica.com

Finding Thermostat on 98 Jetta GLS

Its to the right of the water pump towards the bottom of the engine.. Follow your lower radiator hose. Make sure to get some G12 coolant from VW before you do it. If you mix the coolants they turn into a gel that will cause you to overheat.
