Question about 2003 Chrysler PT Cruiser

2 Answers

Intermittantly, the oil light comes on and the bell dings when I come to a stop. The oil has been changed, and the oil does not show it is low. This started at about 128,000.00 miles, and, with no apparent pattern it just does this for a day or so, then doesn't happen for a week or so, and then it happens again for a couple of days.... There is no other indication of a problem....and no mention of this in my maintenance book. Any suggestions....My mechanic doesn't have an answer, and before I spend mor money on "investigating" the cause, I thought I would try your site..... Thank You. Maureen (in California)

I do not really have a solution but I do have a couple of ideas of what it probably is.It is so intermittent that it is probably a bad/loose connection within the oil level sensor wiring or a frayed wire.A frayed wire usually will burn a fuse, but not always. As long as your oil level is fine and the temperature guage works the same as always, not the slightest over what it has always been, there should be nothing wrong with the oil pump as far as starting to go bad and cannot keep up with the system and you could easily spend alot of money just trying to figure it out or just replacing the wiring.Intermittent is almost always a wiring/connection problem.Just check your oil every 500-750 miles to make sure there is no leaking and you will be fine(for peace of mind?)I would. If the bell is annoying enough, there probably is a way to disable it if you really want to.I am not sure where it is on your car.I have a check coolant light which comes on every other month.I add an 8 oz. glass of water to the overflow and it goes off.I have had a pinhole leak for at least 7 years.1 more comment to add. When things like this happen,a friend of mine used to say'It must have been made on a Friday or a Monday'because either they were hungover or couldn't wait to leave.lol Good luck ! Can someone help me my pt cruizer 2004 oil come one and blinks on and off and ding a lot if i change my oil would it stop and stays off

Yes, changing the oil will help, however, you will also have to clear the "change oil" light. Either figure out what buttons to press to delete that, or go to an auto parts store and ask if they can help you reset it.

Changed battery terminals and now dinging wont stop unless warning light fuse removed

It sounds like it thinks the key is still in it all the time. Try turning the key forward to the on position, but not running, so the dinging stops. disconnect the battery. Remove the key completely and reconnect the battery.

My oil light is on and the bell is dinging what is the dinging its driving me nuts

it sounds like the computer needs to be reset. there is a way to do it with some vehicles - mostly the older models but if you take it to a shop they should be able to clear the codes for you by putting it on a machine - no more lights no more obnoxious dinging

there may be a reset button under the hood or in a fuse box

Oillight is on and its dinging

I'M guessing that is oil change or oil service light you are sking about
you have to reset it like this

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position, do not start the engine.
  2. Fully depress the accelerator pedal slowly three times within 10 seconds.
  3. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF/LOCK position.
NOTE: If the indicator message illuminates when you start the vehicle, the oil change indicator system did not reset. If necessary repeat this procedure.

Idiot oil light is ringing its bell non stop.... driving me crazy

The oil light is an indicator of oil pressure, not oil level. If it is chiming all the time now, it means that your engine likely has an oiling issue, such as a failing oil pump.

Get the vehicle checked out immediately before you cause irreversible damage that requires a replacement engine or an entirely new car.

Are you using the specified grade of oil and oil filter? I know some some Volkswagens are really picky when it comes to the oil and won't like anything other than from the Volkswagen Dealership

Oil light comes on and dings all day

If engine is not ticking or knocking while running, likely the pressure sender is faulty. If changing it makes no difference, have actual pressure checked with a mechanical gauge.

1998 Saab Bell will not stop dinging, even when key is removed.

the lights are most likely the third brake light on the decklid... small line of led brake lights small unit.. i would clean the ignition switch with some quick start and cycle the key in and out to clean up the contact on the bottom some times soda or coffe gets in there and makes the car think that the cars key is in the ignition
