Question about 1998 Oldsmobile Achieva

1 Answer

The car starts, runs for about a second or less and then dies. Have checked the fuel pressure and it's at 42psi. Have been told it could be the theft protection on the key switch. Is there some way to determine if that is the problem or is there something else that might be going on?

I have a 1993 Pontiac transport van and it will start up and run for 5 or 10 seconds and die

You may want to do a fuel pressure test to start. The pump could be defective. The fuel pressure should hold steadily and not decline with the pump off. If the fuel pressure falls, you either have a fuel leak, stuck injector, faulty fuel pressure regulator, or a bad fuel pump check valve. If the pressure holds at the correct spec, note the pressure as the engine runs and then dies. If the guage shows correct pressure, you can then move on ruling out the fuel system.

96 Lumina 3.1 won't start. It runs when I spray starting fluid in the throttle body. It has 42psi fuel pressure at the fuel rail. Is it bad injectors?

It is not bad injectors, it is lack of injector electrical pulse, never would all the injectors fail at once. See if you have 12 volts (use a 12 volt probing test light, avail at any auto parts store for less than $5) to one wire of the two wire connector of each injector with the ignition key in run position. If the test shows no hot wire at the injector connectors then check fuses marked ECM1 and ECM2 in the under-hood fuse block. If they are popped then you have a shorted harness or component.

I have a 1992 mazda 323 it starts after a while it dies i changed the fuel pump there was some white stuff in gas tank changed the fuel filter changed plugs wires distributer cap rotor checked MAS che

I'm glad you figured it out. However, the "white stuff in the tank" sounds like somebody might have put sugar in your gas tank. You should probably pull the tank down, drain it, and clean it out real good. Otherwise, you are likely to be taking your fuel rails and injectors apart again.

I was driving around in my 2003 Alero V6 and all of sudden my vehicle was jerking a little and I had trouble getting the speed to climb so I pulled it into a parking lot where it just died. I tried to...

you can test the fuel pressure with a gage it should be about 35lbs pressure.have the pcm checked for codes as this can help you start in the right direction.do you have spark at the plugs if not the problem can be anything that is in the ignition system, including sensors.i have seen a catalytic converter plugged so bad that it stop a car from running and wouldn`t let it start,to test this you need to perform an exhaust back pressure test.at idle the pressure should be less than 1lb pressure and at 2000 rpms if it was running it should be less than 2-2.5lbs pressure.i`m not neccessarily saying these are cheap test unless you can do it yourself.

Car wont start or runs then dies out

fuel is the issue, check to see if the injectors are getting pulse if you dont have test equip you can get a bulb socket that takes a 194 bulb then put one wire in either side of injector plug to see if it flashes if it does then check fuel pressure should be around 42psi

1996 Altima cranks, won't start

First, never use starting fluid on a gasoline engine. Check for dirty air filter, then check for Mass air flow sensor (Fault code) . This sensor controls fuel mapping, bad signal here will cause over fueling (black smoke) also called loading up (rich). Stopped up Air filter will affect Mass air flow. Perform OBD II test to prevent buying unneeded parts. Also delete stored codes.
