Question about Kia Sorento LX

3 Answers

My check engine light came on this morning. Wondering if the reason could be that I have 66,500 miles on it and I haven't had my timing belt changed? Would that cause it? How many miles can you usually go without having this changed?

No, this light is only used for faults, not for periodic maintenance. You'll have to get the car scanned to extract the trouble codes. Autozone and Advance, among other parts stores, offer a free scanning service. If you need help understanding or troubleshooting the codes, please let us know.
Not sure what the timing belt replacement interval is for Kia. Suggest you google it to see when they typically fail and go by that rather than any OEM recommended period.

This can go on for many reasons. Usually a sensor or faulty circuit will set it off. Most part stores will run a scan for free which will tell you why it is on.

TIMING BELT IS DUE TO BE CHANGED AT 60,000

The check engine light/service engine soon (yellow light) comes only when the computer control unit (called the PCM) senses a fault in the electronic controls of the engine and/or the emission system u will seldom feel the car engine run any different, there are about 200 possible faults that turn the light on, to know what has developed a problem you must have the system tested, this is called an OBD2 fault code test, Kragen and Autozone parts stores do this testing for free.

Will my 2004 volvo xc90 have a message indicator when timing belt is bad?

I seriously doubt the code was for the belt. It could have been for something the belt drives. If you can find out what the code was we can advise.
And no the computer will not set a code for the timing belt. Most companies recommend replacing the timing belt at 60,000 to 80,000 miles.

Does My 93 Camry have a timing chain or Belt ? when to change it?

its timing belt. This car requires the timing belt to be serviced at every 60k miles. This engine is a non-interference motor, so the engine will not get damaged internally if belt breaks. But other parts externally can become damaged. Also at the same time the timing belt is changed, replace the water pump, idler and tensioner pulleys.

Timing belt in a 2005 hyundai replacement

You should find another dealer. Hyundai recommends replacing the belt every 60,000 miles and this dealer knows this. No reason at all to replace it at 42,093 miles. Remember that this is an interference engine so if the belt breaks serious engine damage will occur. Do not neglect this service at 60,000 miles.

The "check engine" light came on

There are a number of reasons the engine light can come on. It can mean that it's time for a full tune up (plugs/points/etc). It can also mean a catalytic converter needs to be changed depending on how many miles you have on the car. You really need to take it in to a qualified Toyota mechanic to have it diagnosed before you have severe engine problems.
